Community Service, Los Angeles

How We'll Make a Difference Together
Join approximately 600 Starbucks partners (employees) and customers as we transform a south Los Angeles community. With your help, we can make a real difference for the students and residents of Hyde Park and Vermont Square by giving their neighborhood schools and beloved local park a much-needed makeover.

The day will kick-off with a special welcome on the campus of Crenshaw High School. The group will then break into teams and gear up for work at Crenshaw High School as well as Barack Obama Global Prep Academy, Mastering the Brilliance of Early Learning Academy Preschool and Leimert Park. Volunteers will engage in meaningful service projects, including gardening activities, greenhouse renovation, light construction, and painting murals and planters. All supplies and instructions for completing projects will be provided by HandsOn Network and its local affiliate, the Volunteer Center of Los Angeles.

A celebration will take place immediately following to recognize volunteers and honor the day's achievements. Festivities will include lunch, local entertainment and fun photo opportunities with your fellow volunteers.

Schedule for the day (Pacific Time):
  • Check-in begins: 8 a.m.
  • Welcome: 9 a.m.
  • Service projects: 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Celebration: 1:30 - 3 p.m.
Rain or Shine, We'll Be There
Events will take place rain or shine, so please dress for the weather. Wear clothing that is comfortable and safe, and that you do not mind getting dirty or worn. Outdoor, closed-toe work shoes or running shoes are a must and feel free to bring your favorite pair of work-gloves to round off your attire for the day. Registration Is Required
Please register to participate as space is limited. This will help us ensure you have a positive volunteer experience. T-shirts will be available at the event for registered participants, so please arrive early for your choice of sizes.

If you can't make this date and time, look for another community service project in your neighborhood, and get involved!

Los Angeles: Crenshaw High School Revitalized

Los Angeles Month of Service Event

At our Los Angeles event on April 9 for the Global Month of Service, more than 600 Starbucks partners (employees) and customers engaged in meaningful projects. During this event, Starbucks volunteers revitalized three school campuses to help create a better learning environment for thousands of students.

The great work we accomplished at Crenshaw High School included painting murals with the school mascot, landscaping the campus grounds by pulling invasive plants, and repainting columns and walls to help improve the campus.

Inspired Moments

Moments. They are powerful.

We work to create inspired moments every day in our stores. When we get these moments right, they create ripples that reach far beyond our walls. Those moments are not just meant to happen in our stores, they are meant to happen in our neighborhoods too.

It’s my community service story. It’s about creating that moment.

And I’ve learned time and time again that when I work hard to create that moment for others, the most impactful moment is the one I experience myself. The moment I am given when I choose to give. The moment when I realize the world is bigger than just my world. The moment I realize I have the power to make a difference in that world. The moment that I really experience life. Experience acceptance. Experience humanity.
