Introducing Starbucks® Blonde Roast

Today marks an exciting day as we announce the newest addition to our Starbucks Roast Spectrum — Starbucks® Blonde Roast. This roast builds on our experience – over 40 years – in artisanal roasting and sourcing to bring you a truly lighter-bodied coffee. Starbucks® Blonde Roast joins our current lineup that includes medium and dark roasts giving you a spectrum of options and making it easier for you to find your favorite coffee.

We explored more than 80 recipes before we selected the final coffees for Starbucks® Blonde Roast. The new coffees included in this category are Starbucks Veranda Blend™, Starbucks Willow Blend™, Decaf Starbucks Willow Blend™ and Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew Veranda Blend™.

I am incredibly proud of the diligent work our green coffee team and master roasters have gone through to ensure that Starbucks® Blonde Roast embodies the same quality that our other coffees share. I look forward to hearing your comments and thoughts around these new coffees, which will be available in our retail stores and grocery stores in the U.S. and Canada this January.

      I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS NEW ROAST/OMG IT IS SO FREAKING GOOD! I'm not a dark roast kinda least i didnt start out that way but over the last yr or so my desire for hardy coffee has totally increased. However, being one to always go for whatever is new at a restaurant or whatever, i had to try the new blond roast! Let me tell you..............mmmmmmmmmm I'm so in heaven! Addicted...TOTALLY! and today i added a few shakes of cinnamon and vanilla dusting :-) HAPPY

        LOL Thats so me LOL I so was not a coffee drinker until my coworkers kept inviting me. I would get anything but coffee and I had the same complaints too strong, heartburn..upset stomach....HA! But now! LOOOOOOOOOVE IT!

      Coffee strength (brew strength) is independent of roasting strength. dark roasts are simply toasted until they are burned and then they are brewed either strong or weak. the best coffees are toasted very lightly but brewed very strong

      You've got it wrong. the new "blonde" coffee is because starbucks finally realized that the general public think that their coffee *****! it is way too bitter and yes, it does taste burnt! it always has. real coffee drinkers, not those sucked into the trendy bullcrap that is starsucks, but people who actually like coffee prefer dunkin donuts and the like, not the gross mud that comes from starbucks!

    So, you just found out that 40% of coffee drinkers do not care for over-roasted beans. Too bad you bought Seattle's Best Coffee, probably to kill the competition, and did not bother to taste it. It was and is the PERFECT coffee.

        The reason for buying out a company that has a positive brand and not converting it in this case it to introduce that brand into a lessor market, like fast food restaurants, without degrading you brand.

      Frank, I'm sure some Starbucks Partners at our Seattle Support Center and at our two USA Roasting Plants have tried it. I'm a Starbucks Coffee nut and I even have friends at the roasting plants and I haven't been able to try it. I'll be with you, waiting until the launch.

      Those are probably baristas because we all got to try it in the beginning of October, the beans are smaller the blonde coffee is lighter color and it has a light flavor its very good for those of us who can't handle the strong flavor of a bolder drip

    Just please don't reduce the offerings of dark, bold coffees. Do dance with the ones that brought ya. It was us bold-lovers that made Starbucks the success it is.

      We are getting rid of 2 coffees and we are getting rid of 2 decafs I believe I think decaf Sumatra and shade grown are believe don't remember the others

        I really hope decaf Sumatra is not going away. I much prefer bold and x-bold blends, but for my daily home blend, I mix Sumatra and decak Sumatra beans 50/50 (half-caff) for my machine.

        No decafs are being discontinued; Decaf Sumatra is staying, no worries.

        I love SB coffees, but not the decafs. I can taste the chemical solvents they use to get the caff out with every sip. Is there any chance SB will introduce a Swiss water process decaf, I wonder? Another NW company just introduced one that won a gold medal at some competition. I got some and it is very nice. SB should take note.

        Sbux did have a swiss water processed decaf. it was decaf komodo dragon. definately the best of the decafs. not sure why it was discontinued, maybe 3 years ago. My Starbucks Idea website is a great tool though for customers to voice that concern. Its been the reason for alot of changes over the last almost four years. If you havent checked it out, do so.

        Organic Shade Grown Mexico
        Fair Trade Cafe Estima
        Decaf House
        Decaf Verona

        Our Italian Roast is now Fair Trade Certified
        and we will also offer Decaf Willow Blend (Blonde).

        I must note how displeased I am that my favorite coffees are constantly being removed from the core lineup.... I mean Arabian Mocha Sanani, Starbucks Red, and now Shade Grown.... I mean, I wanted to eventually wait to try all those not offered here (in the USA like South of the Clouds, Muan Jai, etc.) but I mean, are they still gonna be around? or am I gonna have to fly all across the world for a pound of coffee?

    I'm really excited to try the new roast. My favorites are usually darker (Sumatra & Verona). But I have friends who cannot drink Sbux coffees because of stomach acid problems. so they only drink DD which doesn't affect them. Will this be a Sbux option for them? (Please say yes...)

      Yes, I think your friends will be quite pleased with the new Blonde roast. I don't care for a strong coffees personally, I brew my weekly mark outs at home weaker then the directions, because I find them too strong. So we found that there was a market out there of customers who prefer a much lighter coffee, this will be perfect for them..

    I usually prefer dark roasts (Italian or French roast), but I think it sounds like a great way to mix things up! If nothing else, I know my mom and great-uncle will love it. I'll make sure we all try it when it comes out. :)

    Hey, guys, remember, darker coffee is not really stronger. I am sure everyone knows lighter roast = more caffeine. One might like boldness, but still it is not bread and butter in coffee world. I am excited to try new lighter pair of blond coffees, since lighter roast is my much preferred. Although Verona so far is the only one dark roast I really love

    I tried it yesterday and I have to say it is the first coffee I have liked in 19 years! I was a coffee lover until I stopped drinking it during my pregnancy 19 years ago. I have tried many coffees since then and just cannot acquire a taste for it. Very frustrating. Sampled the blonde yesterday and cannot wait to go back to drinking coffee as tea has been boring me! Good job Starbucks!

    When will the Blonde Roast be available? Will it eventually be available in K Cups.
    I'm really looking forward to trying it since the Breakfast Blend is a little too strong
    for my liking. Hopefully this new roast will be perfect :)

    Any chance that single origin coffees will get the Blonde Roast treatment? Blends are nice, but I'm hopeful that the likes of Guatemala Antigua and Shade Grown Mexico will get light-roasted counterparts.

    Love the idea of " blonde coffee". I spent several years in Seattle area and fell in love with white coffee at the local kiosks. Will Starbucks blonde version be the same thing? If so, I will be there every day!!!!! Thanks Starbucks, for creating a brew for those who like a mellow tasting brew that still delivers a punch of caffeine.

    Just got done with the coffee tasting at my store. It is a very light roast with a very light flavor. I think this will appeal to a great number of people. Although I can appreciate all the dark roasts, and I do enjoy them, It's nice to have something that is light. Good job Starbucks! Can't wait till everyone else gets a chance to try it!

    Is this something comparable to the way some different roasters are roasting such as a Stumptown or Intelligensia? A roaster here in Portland roasts just till first crack of the beans and makes the best cup of coffee in town.

    Well Starbucks, you finally went and ruined what was a great thing. I used to drive out of my way to get a great cup of coffee. Now this blonde is no better than what I get stuck with a Burger King or McDonalds. Why did you have to go and ruin a good thing.
    I guess I've had my last cup of Starbucks coffee.

    I have tried the blonde roast, I really like it if you like light coffe it is perfect you don't really need to add a bunch of sugar or half and half you can drink it straight up :)

    Can we brew it at home in a normal coffee machine? I was told that to brew white coffee beans you have to have a high end espresso machine that has higher heat and more pressure, otherwise you just get a beanie tasting water. Did Starbucks somehow reformulate the grind so we can take it home. And will it come in Kpacks?

    Yes, because god forbid Starbucks is going to try to cater to people who enjoy a light roast, just like they catered to the people who enjoy a dark roast for so long... Suck it up complainers. I on the other hand am very pleased to see Starbucks is bringing in a lighter option. I enjoy the dark roast, but will definitely be giving this one a try

    Is "blonde" a new way to say "cinnamon"? When I trained as a Coffee Master, Starbucks prided itself on not using cinnamon roasts. And Starbucks prided itself on educating its consumers about why it was a darker, more intense roast. With the advent (and mistake) of all-day Pike Place Roast, and now the Blonde roasts, I feel like Starbucks has just thrown in the towel. Out with education, in with mass consumerism? (On the other hand, I have tried, Willow Blend and it was good, but too mild for me.)

    Fist day of Blonde being served to customers! I LOVE IT!!! No after taste! Even for being a light roast, it has a nice, pleasant deep flavor. I know they have another blonde roast coming out in a couple of weeks so I am excited to taste that one too! Great job Starbucks! Looks like I'll be switching from your hot tea to coffee!!!

    Sipping on the Veranda right now. It's very easy to drink, low acidity with high floral notes. Not my favorite combination, but to each their own. I like that Starbucks has done this, though. In fact, I hope they use these new blends to phase out Pike Place. Pike is my least favorite of all of the blends and I know a lot of people feel the same.

    I have just tried the new Blonde roast and it is delicious. Great taste. While I am a dark roast drinker, this is a wonderful everyday roast. Hat's off to Starbucks.

    I really like the Blonde Decaf Willow Blend. I have been drinking the House Decaf, but this one is perfect. It's a great tasting coffee. Thanks Starbucks!

    I think this is the worse idea Starbucks has ever had. Lighter roast coffee is such a terrible fad. I just sampled the Willow blend and I was instantly transported back to my parents kitchen, where Maxwell House reigned supreme. Yuck.
