Hot Chocolate Decadence from Ethical Sources
We are excited for the arrival of our new premium hot cocoa mixes at a grocery or wholesale retailer near you this month. There’s a variety of delicious flavors – Double Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Toasted Marshmallow and Peppermint, and different size options. But one thing that doesn’t vary with all these wonderful cocoa mixes is that they are all made with ethically sourced cocoa. We’ve included QR codes on the packaging to give you more information about ethical sourcing and the positive impact it has on those involved.
What that means specifically is that the cocoa used in these products is from a Starbucks-verified supply chain in West Africa. The cocoa is grown by approximately 16,000 farmers. It is part of our Cocoa Practices program, a comprehensive sustainability approach, promoting a coordinated effort among all of the participants in the supply chain (farmers, co-ops, distributors and suppliers).
As with purchasing coffee, our approach to cocoa buying is designed to ensure a long-term supply of high-quality, ethically sourced cocoa while contributing positively to the environment and to cocoa farming communities. We are proud of our Cocoa Practices program and the resulting fabulous, high quality products.
Fun fact: Just one Starbucks retail store in the U.S. consumes enough cocoa to support between 1-2 farmers (and their families) in the Ivory Coast. Given that fact, we know that this is an area we can contribute positively to the cocoa farming communities.
