Three Reasons Why I Love Bistro Boxes

I’ll admit it – it’s seriously hard to make good food choices when you’re busy. It always feels like I have to make a tough choice: will it be quick or will I feel good? And since I am already making admissions … sometimes I choose the wrong one. You know the wrong choice (we’ve all made them!), where you sacrifice speed for something that resembles food.

Our newest additions, Bistro Boxes, finally make these choices easy. Now you can enjoy fast, delicious wholesome food with whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables. And the super-cute box makes it easy to take wherever you are off to – your next meeting, in the car or hopefully the beach!

When you can recognize the food you’re eating its easy to know you’ve made a good choice, but you can also feel good about the fact we’ve crafted all Bistro Boxes to be less than 500 calories.

Top Five Reasons to Love Skinny Caramel Macchiato

Hi! We have another delicious addition to our "skinny" espresso drink line up: Skinny Caramel Macchiato.

Here are my top five reasons to love Skinny Caramel Macchiato…

  1. It’s ‘skinny’ at its best – nonfat milk, sugar free vanilla syrup, no whip – topped with a layer of creamy foam and drizzled with a hint of buttery caramel.
  2. There are only 105 calories in a Tall size (12 fl oz) – can you believe it?
  3. There are only 140 calories in a Grande size (16 fl oz) – ust as delicious if I need a little more skinny in my day!
  4. It’s delicious iced and beautiful too… Iced Skinny Caramel Macchiato has visual layers of coffee caramel goodness and is my personal favorite.
  5. It’s here just in time to help you with your New Year’s goal.

Skinny Caramel Macchiato is just one of many beverages that you can try "skinny". To try it skinny, just ask for: nonfat milk + sugar-free syrup + no whip.

Let me know what you think about trying your favorite espresso beverages skinny!

Real Food Simply Delicious, One Year Later

June 29 is an important day for the food team at Starbucks – it’s the day we celebrate our one-year anniversary of “Real Food Simply Delicious”! RFSD means we removed all that unnecessary stuff from our food in our U.S. company-operated stores. So no matter what you are looking to eat – a breakfast sandwich or yummy apple fritter – you can feel good about the fact that it has no artificial flavors, artificial dyes, artificial trans fats or high-fructose corn syrup.

I sat down with Lisa B., our manager of food research and development, to get the inside scoop on how she and her team made it all happen!

Question: Why did Starbucks make these changes to our food recipes?
Answer: We wanted a new approach to Starbucks food – one that celebrates real ingredients and focuses on simpler recipes that make our food even more delicious. We baked and tasted hundreds of recipes in our test kitchen to improve the quality of our food and proudly serve it alongside our coffee.

A Cup of Low-Cal Goodness

You may already know that coffee and tea are naturally low in calories. In fact, a Grande brewed coffee (16 fl oz) has only about 5 calories and a Grande brewed tea has 0 calories, so both are good choices for those seeking a delicious, low-cal pick-me-up.

If you like a little added sweetness, here are some of my favorite customizations. (All nutritional info per Grande 16 fl oz size.)

  • Iced Coffee with 1 packet of sugar – 25 calories, 0g fat, 6g sugar, 0g protein.
  • Iced Coffee with Milk made “skinny” with one serving of sugar-free sweetener* and a splash (say 2 fl oz) of nonfat milk – 25 calories, 0g fat, 3g sugar, 2g protein.
  • Tazo® Shaken Iced Passion Tea made “skinny” with one serving of sugar-free sweetener* – 0 calories, 0g fat, 0g sugar, 0g protein.
  • Tazo® Awake™ Tea Latte made “skinny” with one serving of sugar-free sweetener* – 80 calories, 0g fat, 11g sugar (from milk), 8g protein.

*This could be a packet of Sweet’N Low®, Splenda®, Equal® or a few pumps of one of our sugar-free syrups.

Knowing all this, treating yourself to a delicious cup of coffee or tea has never felt so good!

A Family Favorite

Hi folks – it’s Katie here. As you may know, I am a Registered Dietitian and, more importantly, a new mom. From one parent to another, I’m pleased share one of my favorite offerings: Starbucks® Snack-Fulls.

We’ve heard your request for a nutritious, fun and convenient kids’ option for the on-the-go parent.

The USDA’s MyPyramid recommends that kids “focus on fruits,” “make half [their] grains whole” and get “calcium-rich foods.” We think we’ve put together the perfect pack that helps deliver all that while being fun and delicious.

How to Skinny Your Beverage

You’ve probably heard of our sinfully delicious, guilt-free Skinny Lattes – available in Caramel, Vanilla, Hazelnut and Cinnamon Dolce. These treats each come in around 90 calories, 0g fat and 9g protein for a Tall (12 fl oz) serving. Plus they have about 30% of your U.S. daily value in calcium.

But with a few simple substitutions, you can make just about any drink Skinny. One of my favorites is a Skinny Caramel Macchiato. It’s not on the menu – it’s simply a Caramel Macchiato made with nonfat milk and sugar-free vanilla syrup. You can still keep the caramel drizzle topping for a little added indulgence and have only about 110 calories.

Here is how to make your favorite drink Skinny:

Opt for nonfat milk. That saves up to 120 calories and 15g fat.
Switch to sugar-free syrup. That trims off about 20 calories and 5g sugar per pump of syrup!
Hold the whip. Whipped cream adds about 50 to 110 calories and 5 to 11g of fat to your drink.

Here are some additional ways to shave calories in your favorite drink:
