A CD + A Free $5 Starbucks Card = Comfort & Joy

If you’re pressed for some last-minute stocking stuffers (and who isn’t?), don’t panic. Roll into a participating U.S. or Canada Starbucks this weekend – December 18-19 – and pick up a CD or two or three. With each CD purchased you’ll receive a free $5 Starbucks Card. While supplies last.

Our current music selection encompasses a range of tastes, so you may well be able to check a bunch of names off your list.

Sleigh Ride Side by Side, our annual assortment of golden-age holiday music, is a spirited holiday staple, while Annie Lennox’s A Christmas Cornucopia offers stately traditional Yuletide fare as delivered by a contemporary icon.

For that aunt or uncle who likes to shake it a bit, check out Jolly Old Soul, an old-school mix of Yuletide R&B and doo-wop. Finally, for kids (and plenty of nostalgic adults), there’s this year’s A Charlie Brown Christmas deluxe package, which includes both Vince Guarldi’s score on CD and a complimentary bonus DVD of the animated 1965 special.

And if something more current is called for, ask about blockbuster releases from Josh Groban, Taylor Swift, Norah Jones and Kings of Leon.

It’s a cliché because it’s true: music makes the perfect stocking stuffer. Avoid the department store crowd by going the CD and Starbucks Card route. Then maybe go home, put on Streisand singing “The Christmas Song,” treat yourself to an eggnog or two and leave the rest to Santa.

Can we just get a $5 Card Please?! Always have to have a stipulation on things..... Your Deals are not Good. The product we have to buy in order to get $5 Gift Card is 3x the price we have to pay..... uh uh! Not worth it. BUT LOVE STARBUCKS AND WILL ALWAYS BE A CUSTOMER. Am there twice a day and Saturdays.

The $5 card is a thank you for purchasing the CD or other item. No store could stay in business very long if they just gave stuff away. Business NEED to make a profit to stay in business.

Ok, so with Starbucks, you need to spend $15 on a cd and get a $5 gift card. Anywhere else, you need to buy a $25 gift card then you get a $5 card for a future visit that you can't even use untl January. I think Starbucks is better than the other programs!

What company just gives out $5 gift cards for you buying nothing? None. It's a business. If you're there so much you already get free drinks with your registered card. If you 'LOVE STARBUCKS AND WILL ALWAYS BE A CUSTOMER' then chill and enjoy your coffee.

College Park store in Florida had no idea what I was talking about told me things like that only happened during the 12 days of Christmas. Nice idea but the managers need to know about it.

@tlaylay. C'mon seriously, you expect any store to just give out GCs to anybody that asks, w/o requiring any purchase? Do you know how many people would abuse that and go back for more and more and more? Do you know how fast places would go out of business if they just gave away free GC's? Do you know of ANY other place anywhere that just invites people to come and get free GCs? I think a dose of thought and reality might make you realize how silly you're idea is.

I have the same complaint-I went to the store (Marquette, MI) to buy my CD and a drink, and they wouldn't give me the $5 card. They had no idea what I was talking about. I saved my receipt and this printout-I think I should still get the $5 gift card!!!

Starbucks in Wayne, NJ also did not know about the promo. I think the corporation needs to inform the stores of these offers before they are put out there for the consumer. Not happy with this but love the latte.

I was lucky enough that the Starbucks I go to all the time here in Colorado Springs honored the offer for us today. They always "Rock It'. I have to say that they are also very reasonable on the CD's, if you look for the Norah Jones or Kings of Leon elsewhere they would be 15 to 18 and at Starbucks it is 12.95, just saying. Merry Christmas

I've noticed for a long time that Starbucks employees don't seem to be educated on the promotions you're running. In fact many of them aren't very sure how the Gold Card works. They just rely on the register to do the discounting etc. There really should be more communication with employees on what's going on. Maybe you should send them the emails we get when we signed up or have them all 'like' your fb page so we all have the same info.

It's been over 24 hours and no response from Starbucks?

    • 12/18/2010 9:15 PM

So many people, here and on Facebook, are saying that the Starbucks they went to knew nothing about the CD +$5 GC promotion, or it wasn't coming up on the register, or that store was not participating, etc. C'mon Starbucks, get your act together and tell the stores about the promotions. Too many of us are wasting our time trying to get this offer, at too many stores which know nothing about it!!

I'm a partner at a Starbucks in Houston. Someone came in today asking about this offer. No one at my store had heard of the promotion. We haven't heard of any particular promotions following the "Twelve Days." We need a code or something to ring this up. Please don't promote something online that you don't tell the stores about. It puts us in a horrible position.

The staff at the Starbuck's in Lynnwood, WA knew nothing about the promotion, either. I have a phone w/internet access, so I brought up the website on my phone and showed it to the cashier. She had to be creative to find a way to make it work, since she had no idea what code she was supposed to use.

It works in Hawaii - I visited 3 stores - all the baristas knew about it. There is also a very small sign, quite insignificant, near the CDs that describes the offer. IMO it shld be bigger so they can sell out. Did you know there is a Mon/Tues. promotion? Not sure what it is. If anybody finds out, pls post it.

I'm in Manhattan and went into Starbuck's to pick-up a Christmas CD and some coffee on my way over to visit a friend. When I asked about this promotion I was told "that was yesterday only, you missed it" Nice. :) Anyway, long story short, how is it that all the customers are well aware of the promotion, but not the staff nation-wide? How can that be?

@macaulay1988..........exactly what happened to me here in Pittsburg, CA. Even though this posted special says "December 18-19", stores are either not honoring it at all or picking a choosing how they will honor it. When Starbucks does this to its customers it is most undignified whether it is at the Corporate level or Retail level. It makes me feel like shopping at other coffee shops....I just wish there was a Forza Coffee in my neighborhood, heck I wish there was one in California.

I have had the same problem with my local Starbucks not knowing any of the current promotions. In fact, one did not even know about the 12 days of Christmas promotion.

I just went to Starbucks in RSM California and was so excited to get the Annie Lennox Christmas CD. SAME PROBLEM!!! The manager didn't have the code to use!! They had no clue about the promotion. The manager was kind enough to give me a coupon for a free drink but I really wanted the CD. Corporate should fix this problem and extend the offer till Christmas. Otherwise Starbucks is on Santa's naughty list and will receive coal for Christmas!

In Ottawa, had the same problem with the staff having no knowledge of this offer. They spent 20 min calling other stores to confirm and the other stores didn't know anything about it. I showed them the 'Tweet' and the didn't beleive it. It was only when I showed them that it came from the same Twitter account as the "12 days of deals" did they finaly concede. Starbucks please inform your stores of your promotions.

Thank you to all our customers who posted feedback about our CD Purchase promotion. We are happy to hear this last-minute offer was rewarding to those who participated. But we are also sorry to hear the stories from customers who were unable to obtain a $5 card. Therefore, we are improving communications with our stores to ensure they can honor similar promotions in the future.

I went to 2 different Starbucks in Conn. on Sat. 12/18/2010; the one in Enfield and the one in Granby and neither one of them had heard of this promotion. So what's up with that?

    • theclam
    • 12/21/2010 3:20 PM

I got the same treatment. "We've never heard of that promotion." And when I contacted Customer Service through the website, they said "So sorry you couldn't find a participating store." Personally, I don't think individual stores should be allowed to opt out of offers. Especially when you consider the fact that those of us following on Facebook and Twitter are the core fans of the brand, it's a big fail to blast us with marketing for something we can't have
