Note: This Sweepstakes is intended for participation by legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and Canada (except the Province of Quebec) only, who have reached the age of majority in their state or province of residence at the time of entry. The Sweepstakes shall be governed by and construed in accordance with U.S. & Canadian law without regard for any applicable conflicts of laws rules. Do not enter this Sweepstakes if you are not located in the U.S. and Canada at this time.

These rules apply to the Starbucks Earthwatch Sweepstakes ("Sweepstakes") being conducted by the Starbucks Corporation, 2401 Utah Ave. South, Seattle, WA 98134 ("Sponsor"), and administered by Marden-Kane, Inc., 36 Maple Place, Manhasset, NY 11030 ("Administrator"). This Sweepstakes starts 12:00:00 AM (Midnight) Pacific Time (“PT”) April 22, 2008 and ends at 11:59:59 PM PT May 12, 2008 (“Promotional Period”).

1. HOW TO ENTER: During the Promotional Period, complete and submit electronically the entry form located online at http://www.starbucks.com/earthwatch. Entrants must complete all the required information and answer the questions to be eligible. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. Limit one (1) entry per person per e-mail address during the Promotional Period. Multiple entries submitted by a single entrant or e-mail address are void. All entries must be received by 11:59:59 PM PT on May 12, 2008.

2. DRAWING: The potential winners will be selected on or about May 13, 2008 from all eligible entries received in a random drawing conducted by Marden-Kane Inc., an independent judging organization whose decisions are final on all matters relating to this Sweepstakes. Limit one prize per person or household. The odds of winning will be dependent upon the number of eligible entries received. In the event that a selected potential winner refuses the prize, cannot go on the expedition or fails to comply with these official rules, an alternate winner will be notified promptly. If the alternate accepts the prize but does not send the medical confirmation described below so that it is received at Earthwatch by June 4, 2008, or otherwise fails to comply with these official rules, the prize will be forfeited. After June 4, 2008 because of Earthwatch's time limitations, an alternate cannot be selected and the prize will not be awarded.

3. NOTIFICATION: Potential winners will be called on the telephone by Marden-Kane Inc. on May 15, 2008 starting at Noon ET and the first twenty [20] such potential winners to accept the prize will be declared the winners. If a potential winner is not at home when he/she is called, Marden-Kane will leave a message for the potential winner to call back to either accept or decline the prize. If Marden-Kane does not receive a return call within 24 hrs from the time the call is placed to the potential winner to accept his/her prize, the prize will be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner. When a potential winner accepts the prize, he/she will receive written confirmation via Federal Express (“FedEx”). The winner will be required to complete and sign an Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability/Release, and, where legal, a Publicity Release and IRS form W-9, all of which must be returned within five (5) calendar days via FedEx. Sponsor will furnish a prepaid FedEx envelope. If the above documents are not received within the time period, if the prize notification is undeliverable, or in the event of noncompliance with the official rules, the prize will be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner. If a resident of Canada wins a prize, they will be required to correctly answer a timed, mathematical skill question, to be administered by Marden-Kane Inc. either by mail, telephone, e-mail, or fax (at its sole discretion) before the awarding of the prize. By entering the Sweepstakes, entrants agree to the use by Sponsor and its designees of their name, city, state and photograph/likeness for advertising, promotional and other purposes, worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms of media, now known or hereafter devised (including and without limitation, the Internet) without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. Upon request, winners consent to such in writing.

4. PRIZES: Up to (20) Grand Prizes: An Earthwatch Expedition to Costa Rica for one person. The first ten [10] potential winners to accept the prize will go on the expedition from August 4 to August 17, 2008. Potential winners must be able to embark on the expedition on August 2 or August 3, 2008 and return departure to winner’s home may be anytime after 5PM on August 17 or August 18, 2008. The next ten [10] potential winners to accept the prize will go on the expedition from August 25 to September 7, 2008. Potential winners must be able to embark on the expedition on August 23 or August 24, 2008 and return departure to winner’s home may be anytime after 5PM on September 7 or September 8, 2008. All flight times to and from Costa Rica depend on the winner’s home city and flight schedules. In the event a winner cannot travel on dates specified by Sponsor, prize will be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner. Trip includes: Air transportation (coach) to and from a major international airport closest to the winner’s home and all transfers and meals while on the Expedition in Costa Rica. Approx. Retail Value (“ARV”) US$3,500.00 each. Actual value may vary based on winner’s point of departure and dates of travel. Travel arrangements must be made through Sponsor’s agent, on a carrier of Sponsor’s choice. All prize details not described herein are at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. Winners will join an Earthwatch Institute research expedition to a coffee cooperative in Coope Tarrazú, Costa Rica, and be expected to work as an active team member of an Earthwatch research team. The research conducted will measure soil erosion within the cooperative, and encourage more sustainable farming practices within the Coope Tarrazú region. Winners will be involved in measuring and mapping farms on the cooperative, and identifying and analyzing soil conditions, coffee plants, shade tree coverage, and erosion. The daily work will include regular walking, often on steep terrain, occasional lifting and carrying equipment and tools, and regular interaction with farmers, cooperative managers, and the research team. Volunteers will live as field researchers live, eat what field researchers eat, and work like field researchers work. Winners are expected to work with a team and stay with the program from start to finish. Winners must be able to carry out designated tasks without risk of injury. Sponsor will request medical confirmation of winner’s physical capacity to do so, however, winner accepts all risks associated with the Grand Prize. All letters from the winner’s physician attesting to the winner’s ability to perform these tasks must be received by Earthwatch no later than June 4, 2008 for the August 4 and August 25, 2008 trips. Winners should be sure that they are vaccinated for, but not limited to, Hepatitis A and Tetanus and should check with their personal physician for any other vaccinations or shots that their physician may deem appropriately necessary and obtaining such at his/her expense. In addition, winners may wish to obtain travel insurance (and all other forms of insurance) at their own expense and hereby acknowledge that the Sponsor has not and will not obtain or provide travel insurance or any other form of insurance. No prize substitutions, transfer, cash equivalent or assignment of prizes allowed, except at the sole discretion of the Sponsor due to unavailability. All taxes and any incidentals and other expenses associated with the prize and not specified herein as being awarded are the winner’s sole responsibility. Winners are solely responsible for obtaining valid passports at their own expense.

5. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: By participating in the Sweepstakes, entrants agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless Starbucks Corporation, Starbucks Licensed Concepts and Business Alliance partners, Earthwatch Institute, Marden-Kane, Inc., and all their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotions agencies, and each of their respective agents, representatives, officers, directors, shareholders, and employees (collectively, “Releasees”) from and against any injuries, losses, damages, claims, actions, or liability of any kind resulting from or arising from participation in the Sweepstakes or acceptance, possession, use, misuse or nonuse of any prize (including any travel related thereto) that may be awarded. Sweepstakes and Official Rules shall be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington without regard to its principles of conflicts of law. Jurisdiction and venue shall be solely within the State of Washington. Releasees are not responsible for computer, technical, printing, typographical, human or other errors relating to or in connection with this Sweepstakes, including, without limitation, errors which may occur in the administration of the Sweepstakes, the announcement of the prize, the processing of entries or in any Sweepstakes related materials; or for transactions that are lost, stolen, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries or postage due mail; entries that fail to enter into the processing system, or are processed, reported, or transmitted late or incorrectly or are lost for any reason including computer, telephone, paper transfer, human or other error; or for electronic, computer, or telephonic malfunction or error, or process any transaction thereon. If in the Sponsor’s opinion, there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering with any portion of the Sweepstakes, or if computer virus, bugs, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or technical difficulties or failures compromise or corrupt or affect the administration, integrity, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Sweepstakes, the judges reserve the right at their sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and or void any entries submitted fraudulently, to modify or suspend the Sweepstakes, or to terminate the Sweepstakes or that portion of the Sweepstakes relating to the suspected or actual tampering of the Sweepstakes, and conduct a random drawing to award the prizes using all eligible non-suspect entries received as of the termination date. Should the Sweepstakes be terminated or modified prior to the stated expiration date, notice will be posted on www.starbucks.com/earthwatch. Any attempts by an individual to access any web site associated with this promotion via robotic, automatic entry devices, programs such as, but not limited to, by script, macro or any other automated means, or other unauthorized entry will void all such entries by such methods. Any attempt by an entrant or any other individual to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the promotion is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserve the right to seek damages and other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. As a condition of entering the Sweepstakes, participant agrees that: a.) under no circumstances will participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and participant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, consequential, or any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses; b.) all causes of action arising out of or connected with this Sweepstakes, or the prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; and c.) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, but in no event attorneys’ fees. Sponsor reserves the right to modify prize award procedures. In the event of a dispute as to the identity or eligibility of a winner based on an email address, the winning entry will be declared made by the “Authorized Account Holder” of the email address submitted at time of entry. “Authorized Account Holder” is defined as the natural person 18 years of age or older who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, education institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address.

If a resident of Canada wins a prize, they will be required to correctly answer a timed, mathematical skill question, to be administered by Marden-Kane, Inc. either by mail, telephone, e-mail, or fax (at its sole discretion) before the awarding of the prize.

6. ELIGIBILITY: Sweepstakes is open to all legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia, and Canada (excluding residents of the Province of Quebec) who have reached the age of majority in their home state, province or territory of residence at time of entry. Employees of Starbucks Corporation, Starbucks Licensed Concepts and Business Alliance partners, Marden-Kane, Inc., Earthwatch Institute, all their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, prize suppliers, and advertising and promotion agencies, and the immediate families (spouses, parents, children and siblings, and their respective spouses) and individuals living in the households of the above, are not eligible to enter or win. Void in Quebec, and where prohibited by law. The Sweepstakes is subject to all applicable federal, state, provincial, and local laws and regulations.
