Why Get Certified?
Certification increases a company’s visibility for opportunity. Currently, minorities represent 35% of the population but only 21% of all businesses and 3.5% of gross receipts. But in 2011, the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) reported that once certified and part of the NMSDC network, over two-thirds of minority business enterprises confirm business increases due to their partnerships with the council’s corporate members.
In addition, the council reported that in 2010, the largest US corporations purchased more than $100 billion in goods and services from minority owned businesses.
Some of the programs and services offered by the NMSDC and Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) organizations are:
MBISYS: NMSDC’s national database of 16K+ certified minority businesses, a look-up service for corporate buyers.
WBENClink: WBENC’s national database of thousands of WBEs and corporate member profiles.
Business Consortium Fund: NMSDC service that provides access to working capital funds.
Opportunity Fairs and Matchmaker Events: provide access to hundreds of buyers and suppliers.
Seminars and Webinars: provide diverse suppliers with access to best practices, tools, and business cases to help your company drive business development
Executive Training: both WBENC and NMSDC offer scholarships to various executive management educational programs.
