In the fable The Little Red Hen, a hen finds a few grains of wheat and asks her barnyard companions, a lazy dog, a sleepy cat and a noisy duck if they will help her plant the seeds. “Not I” they all respond, and she doesn’t get any help when it comes to harvesting the wheat, grinding it into flour or even mixing that flour to bake a loaf of bread.
But when it comes time to eat the bread, everyone wants to join in and grab a bite. She doesn’t share then, eating all the bread herself, but really how much trouble could she have saved if they had all just shared a cozy afternoon at Starbucks? And why settle for plain bread when you feel the airy, spiced Pumpkin Harvest Loaf melt in your mouth?
Baked with the flavours of fall and loaded with raisins, walnuts and crunchy pumpkin seeds, this is a moist, satisfying treat best enjoyed slowly with friends and a nice, warm drink.

Before the 16th century, the term “harvest” was used instead of “autumn” or “fall” as the name for the season between summer and winter.
