Starbucks Card FAQs

Why should I register my Starbucks Card at Starbucks.com?
Registering your Starbucks Card signs you up to enjoy Starbucks Card Rewards. You also protect the balance of your card if it’s lost or stolen. Finally, with a registered card, you can manage your card in a variety of ways online. For example, you can set up your card to auto-reload when its balance falls below a certain amount. Please note: a valid U.S. or Canadian billing address is required when registering your card.

How do I register my Starbucks Card?
It’s easy and only takes a few minutes online. You’ll need your card’s 16-digit number and the CSC (Card Security Code), which is an 8-digit number that can be found under the scratch-off coating on the back of your card.

What should I do if my Starbucks Card is lost or stolen?
We’ll gladly replace all registered Starbucks Cards. After logging in to your Starbucks.com account, visit the Card Management section and click on the Report Lost/Stolen link. We cannot replace unregistered Starbucks Cards.
We’ll freeze your remaining balance at the time you report your card as lost or stolen, transfer it to a new Starbucks Card and mail you the replacement card immediately –without hassles or fees.


Where can I use my Starbucks Card?
Starbucks Cards are accepted at most Starbucks locations in North America, including airport, grocery, bookstore, casino, university and hotel locations. Most stores in Australia, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Thailand and the United Kingdom also accept the Starbucks Card. Please note that Starbucks Cards issued in Japan, Korea and Thailand may only be used in the countries in which they are issued.

How do I check the balance on my Starbucks Card?
Go to Starbucks.com/card and click on “Check Your Balance.” All you’ll need is the card’s 16-digit number and its CSC (Card Security Code), which is an 8-digit number that can be found under the scratch-off coating on the back of your card

Does Starbucks charge a service fee for unused balances on my Starbucks Card?
No, there are no fees or expiration date associated with unused balances on the Starbucks Card.

Can I return a Starbucks Card that I purchased or received as a gift?
If you have a Starbucks Card that hasn’t been used, you may return it by calling 1-800-STARBUC (782-7282). You’ll be asked to provide the original receipt. We’ll send your refund check to you in the mail about 3-4 weeks after your call.

Can I reload my Starbucks Card?
Yes, Starbucks Cards are reloadable. At any time, you can reload your Starbucks Card with additional cash. With a registered card, you can even set up auto-reload, which will reload your card on a regular schedule or when the balance falls below an amount you choose.

How do I reload my Starbucks Card?
To reload your Starbucks Card, go to Starbucks.com/card and click on “Manage Your Card.” Or go to any participating Starbucks store.

How do I sign up for auto-reload?
Auto-reload is a great way to get the most of your Starbucks Card. Auto-reload is available for registered U.S.– and Canadian-currency Starbucks Cards. You set the reload amount and control when your card will be reloaded – on a regular schedule or when the balance falls below a certain amount. After logging in to your Starbucks.com account, visit the Card Management section and click on the Set Auto-Reload link.

Once I have signed up for auto-reload, when can I expect the reloads to occur?
If you signed up for an amount-based reload, your reload will occur the day after your balance dips to or below the minimum amount you specified. For example, if you chose $10 as your minimum balance, and your balance drops to or below that amount at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, your Card will not be reloaded until Tuesday. Amount-based reloads take place once a day, usually by close of business PST. If you signed up for a date-based reload, your reload will take place by 3:00 a.m. PST on the date you selected.

How can I transfer the balance from my old Starbucks Card to a new Starbucks Card?
Starbucks Cards with balances of $5 or more can be loaded onto another card in Starbucks retail stores. You can also transfer card balances at Starbucks.com/card by clicking on the Manage Your Card link.

How does Starbucks protect my privacy after I register my Starbucks Card?
Under the Starbucks.com privacy statement, Starbucks will not give your name to other companies without your permission. Also, you control whether or not you receive information about special promotions and events from Starbucks.

Can I order multiple Starbucks Cards for employees, clients or customers?
Yes, contact our Corporate Sales team to order 15 or more Starbucks Cards. We offer complimentary ground shipping to one location. Go here for more information.

Can I change the email address on my Starbucks.com account?
Yes, you can view or change your email address by logging in and visiting your account section.

What are the benefits of joining Starbucks Card Rewards?

    Do the Starbucks Card Rewards benefits expire?
    No.

    Are all Starbucks Cards eligible for Starbucks Card Rewards benefits?
    All U.S. and Canadian registered Starbucks Cards are eligible. This includes Starbucks Card Duetto® Visa credit cards.

    Do I have to present my Starbucks Card to get a free brewed coffee refill?
    Yes. You will have to present your Card to the barista. Brewed coffee refills are for customers who are spending time in our stores.

    Can I get unlimited brewed coffee refills? Can I use any size cup for free brewed refills?
    Yes and Yes. You can get unlimited brewed coffee refills during your visit with any size cup, including hot or iced coffee.

    Why do I have to pay with my Starbucks Card to receive Starbucks Card Rewards benefits?
    The program is designed to reward our customers who use and pay with a Starbucks Card.

    Are all stores participating in Starbucks Card Rewards?
    All U.S. and Canadian company-operated stores are participating in Starbucks Card Rewards.


    Customized Starbucks Card


    What is a Customized Starbucks Card?
    A Customized Starbucks Card allows you to create your own personal Starbucks Card – a unique version of the Starbucks Cards you see in our stores. You can choose from several different themes to create and personalize your design online. You’ll then receive your finished card in the mail. The Customized Starbucks Card is yours to enjoy for as long as you’d like. It’s great to create your own or to give as a gift.

    What are the computer requirements to customize a Starbucks Card?
    The browser requirements are Internet Explorer 6.0 and above, FireFox 2.0 and above, and Safari. Additionally, your computer must be enabled with Flash 8, Java Script and cookies.

    What comes with the Customized Starbucks Card?
    Each Customized Starbucks Card ordered online arrives loaded with the selected dollar amount and comes in a complimentary card carrier that can be personalized with a message.

    What are the steps that I will go through to customize my card?
    Customizing a card is easy. First, you choose your favorite theme from our library. Then go ahead and explore the different icons and images within the theme. We’ll give you some help along the way if you need it. When you’re done creating your card, you’ll see a preview of it exactly as it will look when you receive it in the mail. If the preview isn’t what you would like, you can go back and redesign your card.

    How do I reorder my design?
    At this time, the website does not have the capability to save your design. You may order up to 14 Customized Starbucks Cards at a time if you would like multiple cards of the same design.

    Can I save my image and come back later?
    Unfortunately we can only hold images during the design process. If you choose to leave the site before you’re finished, you will have to start again when you return.

    Why can’t I put my company logo on the Card?
    At this time, the Customized Starbucks Card program is designed for individual use to create cards for oneself or friends and family.

    How many letters of text can I add?
    Each Customized Starbucks Card theme lets you add up to 20 characters depending on the font you select.

    I have a Customized Starbucks Card gift voucher. How does this work?
    The voucher can be used as payment towards your Customized Starbucks Card. Simply type in the card number and CSC (Card Security Code) located on the back of the voucher when prompted. Your fees and taxes will be deducted from the original voucher amount and the remaining funds will be automatically transferred to your new Customized Starbucks Card. You can discard your voucher once you’ve paid for the new Customized Starbucks Card.

    Are there restrictions to what I can say on my Customized Starbucks Card?
    Yes, every card that is customized is individually reviewed. All text on Customized Starbucks Cards will be checked against our Personalization Policy.

    How will I know if my Card design is rejected?
    If a Card design is rejected for not complying with our Personalization Policy, you will be notified via email and your credit card will not be charged.

    Why would tax apply to my purchase?
    A minimal local sales tax applies to the customization fee and greeting card purchase. The value of the Starbucks Card itself is not subject to tax. Tax rates vary from state to state and county to county. Check with your local tax code for rates and details.

    What is the customization fee?
    The $4 fee covers designing, printing and shipping your card.

    Do I have to pay a $4 customization fee for every Customized Starbucks Card I order?
    Yes, a $4 customization fee applies for every card you order. Every card is handled and printed individually, and it includes standard shipping to one address.

    If I order Customized Starbucks Cards in bulk, can I ship to more than one address?
    At this time we can only accommodate one shipping address. However, each card ordered will come with a complimentary envelope that you can use to send out your Customized Starbucks Cards.

    How long will it take for my Card to get to me?
    Your order will be processed within 6 business days and then mailed to you. Estimated shipping times are listed below:

    What is address verification?
    For orders shipping via the U.S. Postal Service, we will check the address as you type it to ensure your card gets to the right place. You will be prompted to change or update the address if a match is not found.

    What if the address verification can’t find my address, or says my address is invalid?
    Check the address you provided to ensure all abbreviations and street names are Postal Service–approved. If the verification is not finding your address, you will have the option to accept the address as you have entered it.

    What are my shipping options?
    Standard shipping through the U.S. Postal Service is always included in the customization fee. If you are purchasing a Card online with a credit card, you will have the option of upgrading shipping to UPS. Expedited shipping is not available for customers using a gift voucher to purchase their Customized Card.


    Starbucks Card Duetto® Visa®


    How does my Duetto® Card work?
    The Duetto® Card has two accounts on one card – a Visa Account and a Starbucks Card Account. The Visa Account allows you to make purchases against a line of credit everywhere a Visa credit card is accepted. Every purchase you make will earn you 1% in Duetto® Dollars, which are rewards loaded on your Starbucks Card Account to be used at Starbucks.
    In addition to the Duetto® Dollars you earn on your Starbucks Card Account, you may also load a dollar value into your Starbucks Card Account for future purchases at Starbucks. Then you can pay for your favorite Starbucks treats without signing receipts or fumbling for cash.
    When you make a purchase at Starbucks using your Duetto® Card, please be sure to tell the barista which account you’d like to use for each purchase. When your transaction is complete, the barista will hand you a receipt. Please be sure to check your receipt to make sure the correct account was used.


    What is the difference between the Starbucks Card I have now and the Duetto® Card?
    While the Duetto® card is a reloadable Starbucks Card like the one you already have, it’s also a Visa credit card. So you no longer have to carry two cards, and your Duetto® card will reward you with Duetto® Dollars and other benefits you’re sure to love.

    How do I earn Starbucks Duetto® Dollars?
    Each time you use the Visa Account of your Duetto® Card to make purchases, you will earn Duetto® Dollars equal to 1% of your purchase. If you sign up for the optional auto-reload feature using the Visa Account of your Duetto® Card, you will receive 3% in Duetto® Dollars on all auto-reload purchases. All Duetto® Dollars will be automatically loaded to your Starbucks Card Account at the end of each billing cycle so long as you’ve earned more than $1 in Duetto® Dollar.

    How do I know how many Starbucks Duetto® Dollars I have?
    Your Starbucks Card Account balance (which includes any money you’ve loaded or Duetto® Dollars you’ve earned but not redeemed) can be checked online, on your monthly Chase Visa Account billing statement, or at any participating Starbucks location. Duetto® Dollars earned during the month are not available for redemption until they are posted on your monthly billing statement. Your Duetto® Dollars will be held until you’ve earned at least $1 in Duetto® Dollars. At that point, your Duetto® Dollars will be automatically added to your Starbucks Card Account.

    How do I earn additional rewards and benefits from Starbucks?
    With the Duetto® Card, you get more than just Duetto® Dollars. Duetto® card holders will receive unique benefits just for using their Starbucks Card Account, like sneak previews of the newest Starbucks products or special invitations to experience more of the things you love most about Starbucks.
    Plus, you could qualify for additional Starbucks rewards the more you use your Starbucks Card Account. Benefits might include a beverage on the house or a pound of the latest whole bean coffee – the more you use your Starbucks Card Account, the more you can qualify for these special Starbucks treats.


    How do I manually load value onto my Starbucks Card Account?
    You can load a dollar value onto your Starbucks Card Account using credit or debit. Just stop by any participating Starbucks location or do it online. When you use the Visa Account of your Duetto® Card to add value to your Starbucks Card Account, you’ll earn 1% in Duetto® Dollars.

    How do I automatically reload my Starbucks Card Account and earn additional Duetto® Dollars?
    To earn even more Duetto® Dollars, you can sign up for auto-reload. When you use your Visa Account to set up auto-reload, you’ll earn 3% in Duetto® Dollars on the reload amount versus the standard 1% on Visa purchases.

    How do I change or discontinue my auto-reload?
    You can do so online. Once cash value is loaded, the transaction cannot be reversed.

    Where can I use the Starbucks Card Account of my Duetto® Card?
    Your Starbucks Card is accepted at most Starbucks locations in North America.

    What is LISC?

    What happens if my Duetto® Card is lost or stolen?
    If your Duetto® Card is lost, stolen or damaged, you should immediately contact the issuing bank (see the back of your Duetto® Card for the toll free phone number). Your Starbucks Card Account balance is only protected from the point in time you notify the issuing bank your card is missing. For more information on the Starbucks Card Account, review the Starbucks Card Account Terms and Conditions. Different Terms and Conditions apply to the Visa Account. You will receive these Terms and Conditions when you become a card holder.


    Starbucks Gold


    What is Starbucks Gold?
    Starbucks Gold is a new membership program for people who really love their Starbucks. Join Starbucks Gold for an annual membership fee of $25 and receive 10% off most purchases at Starbucks – from espresso beverages to espresso machines. In addition, when you register your Starbucks Gold card, you are eligible to receive other exclusive benefits.

    Why did Starbucks create Starbucks Gold?
    Starbucks Gold was created with our most frequent customers in mind. It gives us a chance to recognize and reward our customers who visit most often.

    What are the benefits of being a member of Starbucks Gold?
    As a member of Starbucks Gold, you’ll enjoy –
    • A 10% member discount on most purchases in participating Starbucks stores.
    • A free drink when you purchase your Starbucks Gold membership in store.
    • Upon registration, you will unlock additional member benefits such as a complimentary birthday beverage, exclusive offers and discounts and free Wi-Fi access for two hours each day. You’ll also receive membership protection if your registered Gold card is lost or stolen.


    What is excluded from my 10% member discount?
    Starbucks Cards, gift certificates, publications, digital downloads, membership fees and online purchases at starbucksstore.com do not qualify for the member discount.

    How will I know if I received my 10 percent member discount?
    Your member discount will be applied when your active Starbucks Gold card is presented and swiped through the point-of-sale system in a participating Starbucks store. Your receipt will indicate the member discount was applied to qualifying items.

    I used my active Starbucks Gold Card, but I didn’t receive my 10 percent member discount. Why?
    If you don’t believe your discount is being applied properly, please tell your barista so that we can make good on our promise to make it perfect for you every time.

    Can I combine my member discount with Starbucks Card Rewards benefits?
    Your 10% member discount and accompanying benefits cannot be combined with Starbucks Card Rewards benefits. You’ll need to decide which benefits make the most sense for you.

    Can I combine my member discount with other offers and discounts?
    Your member discount cannot be used in conjunction with a Starbucks partner discount, with any coupons or with any corporate or prearranged group or organizational discounts, unless specifically stated. If a product is “on sale” and has already been discounted at a higher percentage than the member discount, the “for sale” discount will apply. Member discounts will not be applied cumulatively or on top of other discounts or deductions, except where otherwise noted.

    When will I receive exclusive offers and discounts?
    After you register your Gold card, you will unlock additional member benefits such as exclusive offers and discounts. On occasion, you’ll receive these offers and discounts via email or postal mail.

    When will I receive my complimentary birthday beverage?
    After you register your Gold card and provide us with your birthday, we will send you a birthday postcard valid for a complimentary birthday beverage. You will receive your birthday postcard 30 days prior to or after your birthday, depending on when you register.

    $25 seems like a lot for a membership. How will I recoup that amount if it’s going to be charged to me every year?
    If you visit Starbucks frequently, the return on your investment will be realized quickly. In addition to enjoying 10% off on drinks and food, the discount also applies to merchandise purchased, from whole bean coffee to espresso machines and seasonal gifts.

    Is tax applied to the cost of a Starbucks Gold membership?
    Yes, if applicable, taxes will be added to the $25 cost of a Starbucks Gold membership. For online purchases, you will be charged tax based on the tax laws in the ship-to state. For purchases at a retail store, you will be charged tax based on the tax laws in the state where the store is located.

    Is the Starbucks Gold card accepted at all Starbucks locations in the United States and Canada?
    At this time, the Starbucks Gold card is accepted at participating U.S. Starbucks locations only.

    How do I register my Starbucks Gold Card?
    It’s easy – just visit our site http://www.starbucks.com/card. You’ll need the 16-digit card number and scratch-off Card Security Code (CSC) printed on the back of the card for registration.

    I can’t read the scratch-off Card Security Code (CSC) on the back of my Starbucks Gold card. What should I do?
    If you’re unable to read the Card Security Code (CSC) printed on the back of your Card, give us a call at 1-800-STARBUC (782-7282) so we can help.

    Why do I have to register my Starbucks Gold Card to receive additional benefits?
    You’ll need to register so we know where to send your offers and birthday postcard. By registering your Gold card, we can also learn more about how you visit our stores to better understand what you want from us. After registering, we’ll also be able to protect your Gold card, as well as any balances on the Starbucks Card account, in the event that it is lost or stolen.

    Can I return my Starbucks Gold membership?
    You have the right to cancel your membership at any time. If you cancel your membership, you will be entitled to a full refund of your membership fee if you request it within 30 days of purchase and you surrender your Starbucks Gold card with the original receipt at a participating Starbucks store. For online purchase, a confirmation email upon purchase will suffice as your receipt. No refunds will be available after the 30-day period. For more information, see program terms and conditions.

    What if I want to return my Starbucks Gold membership after 30 days?
    Returns are only accepted within 30 days of the original purchase. After 30 days, returns are not accepted.

    When does my Starbucks Gold membership expire?
    Starbucks Gold is an annual membership. Memberships expire within 380 days after activation of your Starbucks Gold Card. The initial term of a membership shall commence on the date it is purchased and continue for 380 days thereafter. Upon expiration, you can renew your membership by paying the $25 annual fee each year for additional one-year periods unless your membership is cancelled or we terminate your membership before it expires.

    When can I renew my Starbucks Gold membership?
    Upon expiration, you can renew your Starbucks Gold membership by paying the $25 annual fee at a participating Starbucks store. The renewal date will be set at 380 days from the point of renewal if renewed on or before the original expiration date.

    Can I transfer my membership to someone else?
    Sorry, memberships are non-transferable and cannot be shared with family members, friends and others.

    Can I give a Starbucks Gold Membership as a gift?
    Yes, you may give a Starbucks Gold Membership as a gift but it cannot be shared with others.

    Can I use my Starbucks Gold Card like a Starbucks Card?
    Yes, Starbucks Gold cards may be used as a stored value card like regular Starbucks Cards. You can load your card with money and then we’ll swipe it for your member discount.

    What if I lose my Starbucks Gold card?
    If your Gold Card is registered, your membership and any remaining card balance at the time you notify us of its loss will be protected. After logging in to your Starbucks.com account, visit the Card Management section and click on the Report Lost/Stolen link. We cannot replace unregistered Starbucks Gold memberships.
