Starbucks Reserve® Maui Mokka™
A Hawaiian coffee with roots far beyond the islands
Hawaii is an island paradise. Its coffee is rare and alluring. Yet Starbucks Reserve® Maui Mokka™ is all the more exotic, because of its unusual history.
The Mokka varietal descends from a seedling brought from the historic coffee-trading port of Mocha on the Arabian peninsula. It’s believed to date back nearly 1,000 years. This low-yielding plant produces small, roundish beans that are challenging to cultivate – but the flavors locked within those beans are exceptional and worth the effort.
The depth and richness of this full-bodied coffee is extraordinary, with warm brown spice notes and a chocolaty mouthfeel.
This coffee is also unusual for its processing method. Unlike other naturally processed coffees, which are picked and then dried, the Mokka coffee cherry is left on the tree to completely dry before harvest. It’s the extra time in the cherry that allows it to develop those amazing flavors.
