The New Starbucks App for iPhone is Here.

Starbucks for iPhone App

We’ve had a busy few months and lots of mobile news to share. We recently released an application for Android phones and expanded mobile payment to Safeway locations. Well, that’s not all we’ve had up our sleeves.

We’ve been carefully reviewing your requests for new features for our iPhone applications. Now we’re pleased to introduce an update to the myStarbucks application that includes a couple of your top requests.

The updated app combines the features of both the old myStarbucks and Starbucks Card Mobile apps, but we didn’t stop there. The newly renamed Starbucks app (that’s right, we’re just calling it “Starbucks”) also introduces eGifting. That allows you to send virtual Starbucks Cards on the go to your friends through email or Facebook!

If you’d like to try the combined app, download Starbucks and sign in with your Starbucks.com username and password.

I feel IT IS VERY SHORT SIGHTED of SB TO NOT ACCEPT THROUGH THE DRIVE-THRU!!!

I get hassled every time in every drive-thru when trying to 'pay' via the 'app'...each server says there a 'memo' disallowing them to touch my phone because of liability... BS!!

How do you build a mobile app you can't use 'when mobile'??

      Plz remedy this SB...

      Regards,

Do their scanners not reach the drive through window? They should reach. If they don't allow you to pay at the drive-thru, they're just being lazy. Yes, they're not allowed to take the phone but you should still be able to pay with the phone.

I downloaded the app after seeing Starbucks tweet about it. I'm VERY happy to see the two apps combined. My day-to-day use revolved around Starbucks Mobile Card, but myStarbucks had great functionality like favorite stores, saved drinks, and other items. Nice work on pulling these together.

One question though: what's with the built-in QR code reader? I know a QR code was used for the SRCH promotion, but does Starbucks have something else planned?

My question too! What to do with this scanner?

And I would really like to see the ability to use a password return to the new app; otherwise, it's great! Love having the two apps combined now!

Great new App and a huge congrats to the entire team!
Some comments.....it needs password protection ASAP just ike the Mobile Card App (especially around any CC activity!) and please improve the graphics so they look better on the iPhone's retina display. I would have expected both even in this first release since your other App already has this.

Very confusing UI: is this a virtual credit card or only a virtual pre-paid Starbucks gift card? I entered all my Visa info, yet it still blocks the opening screen with a come-on to buy a Starbucks card. The only attraction of such an app would be if it let you charge your own bank account or credit card with one swipe of the iPhone. As it is, it's very disappointing.

I agree with the comments about putting the passcode on the new app. It really should be a feature. I love the new app but still continue to use the old Starbucks Mobile Card app because of the passcode. It feels more secure to me and I feel safe keeping my account logged in with the passcode on. I do have the lock screen set on my phone, but I really like the added security of the passcode for the Starbucks app!

And use the stores search from the Mobile Card app. It works much better than the stores search function on the old myStarbucks and new Starbucks app. Also, the time displayed on the new Starbucks app after checking the balance was two hours later than the phone time.

There is a serious error in this app - particularly if you have a food allergy.

When you choose 'food' and set the filter to 'peanut free' and 'tree nut free', then return back to the food section, one of the items shown under Starbuck Petites listing is the Peanut Butter Mini Cupcake.

For those with food allergies this is an obvious error but it makes one wonder how many other items are incorrectly tagged.

note: I'm using the Canadian version of the Starbucks app

    • marknmemphis@yahoo.com
    • 7/9/2011 6:58 AM

You've banned the app at the drive through? WHY create a convenience like the app only to impose an inconvenient restriction against its use! This morning I was asked to shout my card number from my car so my cashier could ring me up! Ridiculous! I have this app so I don't have wedge yet ANOTHER loyalty card in my wallet. I might as well go back to paying cash. I'm disappointed in you ,Starbucks.

      • dave.taylor
      • 7/11/2011 9:21 PM

      In reply to: marknmemphis@yahoo.com

The reason for the ban from the drive-thru is that most of the drive-thru windows aren't equipped with extra-long-cord handheld scanners and, for quite logical reasons, the staff have been instructed not to touch the customer's iPhone. (you can imagine, an employee drops the phone. Now what?) So telling them the number is a good workaround and I presume that at some point there'll be longer-reach scanners available. (based on conversations with Baristas)

    • pweinman@flash.net
    • 7/9/2011 8:21 PM

    I agree with marknmemphis@yahoo.com

Some stores will scan at the drive thrus.

"Adam the Manager" at the 360/Trinity Blvd store in DFW invited to drive around, park, and come in to scan my iPhone (I forgot my wallet when running out for a grande coffee this evening). Kinda defeats the convenience.

I gave him the coffee back - he preferred to throw it away instead of showing some good will by giving it to me.

I've been a loyal customer for years - but maybe it's time for a change...

I feel some of the good will and customer first are no longer part of Starbucks. Why do we no longer get our free syrups? Free soy? We have to continually purchase from Starbucks on a regular basis to keep our level of Gold but the rewards don't seem much worth it any longer. Time to search out other coffee venders.

Great App. It would be nice if it also displayed the song playing at the Starbucks I'm at.

    • hgruenwald
    • 7/15/2011 1:31 PM

I like the nutrition info it gives for the different drinks. However, it doesn't seem to dynamically update that when you build one with syrups etc. E.g. putting in 12 shots of espresso showed the same caffeine content as going with the regular drink which surely can't be the case. That's a pity b/c I personalize my drinks all the time and would like to know how that affects fat, carbs and so forth.

Love this App and use it often. Just got a second iPhone and have run into an annoying problem. If the App is used on one iPhone then the other phone requires an account authentication before it can use the App, and this takes quite a bit of time. Then the first iPhone will then require account authentication when trying to use the App.

I have been happily using it and so excited about it and then today was told that I would have to park and come in. And what are those of us who have an older iPhone/iPod Touch supposed to do when you get rid of the old app? I'm not spending hundreds of dollars to get a new phone/touch just so I can use the new app. This is, I must say, a little short sighted to set up the new app so that it ONLY works with newer products.

Using the iPhone Starbucks app since its release in Canada, it supplanting my trusty old card in day-to-day use.
But one 'issue' and maybe a suggestion .
Issue: initially, I was having problems with it holding onto my username and password. Every couple of uses, it would ask for them. This seems to have been resolved - coincidentally after mentioning it to SB Execs met a local SB in December?
Suggestion - don't mail Gold Card & Free Drink cards, apply immediately to app. Still waiting on Card.

I too have this problem. The only workaround I have found is this: instead of tapping the "iTunes" button, HOLD it for a second, and the iPhone will pop up another window...choose "Copy", which will copy the URL of the download link to the memory in your iPhone. Then switch to Safari (or another web browser you have installed), open a new page, and "Paste" into the address field. This will open the link to the download and ask for your iTunes password.

I am a pilot, and so I most frequently visit Starbucks in the...airport - surprise! My frustration is that most airport "Starbucks" are not really true Starbucks, but shells with your products, operated by an outside vendor. What this means is: 1) Most of them have no ability to read the barcode on the app, and 2) Most of them are unable to access or redeem my Earned Rewards.

I hope that Starbucks will address these issues!!
