Starbucks Goes Gaga

Starbucks goes Gaga

Considering that Lady Gaga may be the world’s hottest star right now and an innovative creator unlike anyone we’ve seen, imagine our delight when we learned that she’s also a big Starbucks fan. Well Ms. Gaga, we happen to like you quite a lot, too.

So we’d be hard-pressed to let a cultural moment like this one – the May 23 global release of Lady Gaga’s new album, Born This Way – go by without a little something special.

On Monday there’ll be a Gaga takeover of the Starbucks Digital Network in partnership with Yahoo!, where we’ll be giving away a limited number of downloads for her new song “The Edge of Glory” to the first little monsters to claim them. And if one song isn’t enough to get your paws up, you can listen to the Special Edition of Born This Way all day. We’ll also be streaming an exclusive video of her singing an acapella rendition of “Born This Way.” To get on the Starbucks Digital Network, just get on our free Wi-Fi at participating stores and go to starbucks.yahoo.com.

And for those of you who love a good puzzle, you don’t have to wait for May 23. We’ve just launched a unique digital game called SRCH. Along with the thrill of the hunt, there are some pretty sweet prizes and Lady Gaga has a featured role. The game lasts from May 19 to June 7, and there’s no purchase necessary to play. To get started, scan the code below with a QR code reader. (Need a QR reader? Conveniently, the My Starbucks iPhone app has one embedded in it). Have fun and good luck!

This is just plain aweful! How could SB do such a thing knowing the controversy surrounding the "Judas" song. Being a Christian, it will be extremely tough for me to support SB anymore! Bad Move, Bad Move!!!!!!

Really? How much research do you perform on all companies you support to see if they all abide your "Christian Values"? Blacklisting one highly successful and competitive company because they support an artisit with a controversial song is not very Christian. Isn't Love Thy Neighbor a foundation value? I don't think it is Love Thy Neighbor unless they support something that is controversial to the church. But whatever...

this is not meant to be rude at all, but love does not mean to accept every action a person makes and love it. If someone thinks after seing the pic in the ad on the starbucks homepage that lady gaga is a good moral example for their children, whatever, that's their choice..but if they have a problem with her behavior (which by the way that has nothing to do with loving someone or not) they can chose to not support this . It's their right and their decision on where there money goes.

If you listen to any of lady gaga's songs you'd understand her message. Yeah she is a bit out there, but she does it to get attention. hopefully people will be able to see past that innovativeness that can come off as inappropriateness, and see that she's just a voice saying things that we all need to hear. PLUS Judas is not even really about Judas and Jesus. It's about loving someone who hurts someone you love. DON'T BE A DRAG JUST BE A QUEEN!

Christians are called to LOVE people, not turn a blind eye to sin and say it's just who someone is. Colossians 1:28, we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom. For the record, this is about the comment on accepting someone for who they are, not Lady Gaga...

Loving your neighbor has nothing to do with supporting or not supporting an artist whose morals are not in sync with yours. I have friends whose beliefs, morals, and actions are not what I think is right, but guess what? I still love those friends. If my kids disobey or were to really mess up, guess what? Still loving them, too. Now if a parent (i.e. Starbucks...get my analogy here) were to endorse their child's actions (i.e. Lady Gaga) by promoting a bad behavior, not so good. See?

Isn't the bible SUPPOSED to be interpetive? Being a Christian is not about being perfect, it's about realizing that you're not perfect and you're happy because you know that Jesus died for your sins, it's about respecting Jesus and the pain and suffering he undured, and for lady gaga to sing a song about judas is perverted and degrading but what can u expect from earthly, shallow individuals who are out for nothing but themselves, it's all about her achieving fame and fortune, but she'll fall eventually they all do.

I understand the controversy you may sense around "Judas" and it's open to interpretation, but I see it as a song about loving someone who has betrayed you, and knowing that you shouldn't, because they're a bad person. Above all else, it's an amazing pop song, which makes me just want to dance around and enjoy it! She's so talented and inspirational - what one person sees as controversy another sees as artistic expression!

Secondly isn't it possible that the reference could relate to how people follow Jesus yet they cannot let go of the skeletons in their closet because they are scared to (hence the lyrics Jesus is my virtue but Judas is the demon I cling to). Thirdly is it just another way of saying how is is in love with one person but lusts for another? Fourthly it is just a song it's not like it is hurting anyone apart from people who have nothing better to do but slate it. Continued in one more post

Ever song is nothing but a portrayal of a situation, nothing is ever what it seems. So just open your mind and stop j

"Judas", when you read the lyrics, is about (as Gaga tweeted) forgiveness and perseverance. In addition, Christ loved and forgave Judas, as the song says "I'm still in love with Judas"....lastly, Gaga isn't blasting the Church or Christianity in this song. Just a thought to share.

Lady Gaga is simply expressing how it is difficult to be a good person and try and be perfect [Jesus] when there are temptations such as drugs, ***, and for lack of a better word, rock & roll. [Judas] Please fully understand such things before making yourself look like an ***. :)

The lyrics are from the song Born this Way. I went to the starbucks website and searched Born this Way. The first search result was a blog about Lady Gaga. At the end of the blog there was a small thumbnail of the first clue card. Click it- You win! Fill out the info and your prize will be sent to you soon. SRCH = SEARCH

so you didnt even shazam anything? when i saw the shazam logo on gaga's hand in the video, i shazamed 'born this way' and the SRCH ad at the bottom said "to find your next clue find the right lyrics. @SRCH" and then i got lost. in the terms and conditions, it says that round 1 will hve 4 clues, so it seems as though i only made it to clue 2, and you found a shortcut.

I don't have a like or dislike of Gaga, but really... it's just a song and she is doing what she gets paid to do! And the song I am sure is no worse than Madonna's like a prayer.... Starbucks is fab, and I will be happy to continue sipping my latte no matter what they play or promote! Sheesh some people just need to look at the bigger picture!

Ugh, people do some research. Lady Gaga performs satanic rituals because she is a *** slave for the illuminati. That is why she is so huge around the world. She was so desperate for fame that she would do anything. She herself said these things in an interview. She is corrupt & blinded by fame & fortune. just google lady gaga interview illuminati, there you'll find a bunch of stuff on your beloved satanic worshipper. ps.starbucks is delicious

Ms. Gaga went to Catholic school. It's only natural for her to turn to the Bible for guidance and inspiration. How is this anti-Christian? In "Judas" she is saying she is human and she makes mistakes by loving the wrong guy. For this we should boycott Starbucks? God gave you a brain. Use it.

Gaga stands for and supports what she thinks is love. Many of the "Christians" on here simply have a different idea of what love is and how you show it. Many "Christians" are hypocritical yes, because they don't live like Christ. But why is it that the ONE thing which is intolerable in today's liberal society is Christianity? I'm not judging Starbucks, just choosing to take my business elsewhere. Most of you act as if you have never taken a stand for something you believe in. Maybe you haven't which can be seen by the shallowness of your posts. I really get a kick from the remarks pertaining to Starbucks not caring about one customer walking away. Great one! That is the type of business that I like to give my $5 to everyday; the type of busniess that doesn't care. ("sarcasim") Until tomorrow.

If I were to boycott everything from everyplace that did things, said things and believed things I did not agree with then I would have to live like a hermit. Here's a NON-GAGA comment: OK, so I scanned the barcode on my Samsung mobile phone and after an interstitial URL, it redirected me to the generic www.frappuccino.com page. Now what? There's no SRCH. But when I use my iPod Touch, I get the SRCH. If you are limiting this URL redirect to work only with iOS, then say so upfront to avoid mobile disappointment among thousands. QR codes are by design supposed to be universal as they redirect to web pages. Bad, Bad, Bad, SBUX.

I'm certainly not Lady Gaga's biggest fan, but can we put this in perspective please? Would you freak out if SB promoted, say, All You Need is Love by the Beatles because they also performed songs that are quite blatantly about drug use? My point is, it's irrelevant. I wouldn't whine and complain if they promoted Amy Grant whose music is undeniably Christian just because it doesn't jive with MY religious views.
