Pick of the Week: Apps, Books, TV, Music and More!

Pick of the Week now offering Apps, Books, TV, Music, and More!

You asked and we listened. Our Pick of the Week program is getting a facelift! Starting on August 23rd, you’ll notice something new about the Pick of the Week cards: they’re not just music. We've expanded our free music download cards to also include Apps, extended samples of books on the iBookstore, TV shows, and more from iTunes.

The first Pick of the Week offering for Apps will be the Shazam Encore App. Friends, this App is amazing. Did you ever want to know what song is playing overhead in a Starbucks store? In a restaurant? In your favorite shop? The Shazam Encore App for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad can instantly identify any song you’re listening to and give you tour info, recommendations and more – including lyrics in time with the music through the new feature, LyricPlay.

We’ll keep the momentum going the following week with SPY mouse™ from Firemint and Electronic Arts. Created for iPhone and iPod touch users, this addictive game of danger, intrigue, stealth and cheese developed by the makers of Flight Control will have you obsessed. And since great music will, of course, remain central to what we do, one of our favorite songs off of a new album will follow the week after.

Regardless of the type of entertainment, we promise to continue to provide you with really great content that is fresh, unique, and specially picked just for you. We hope you love it!

Because it's through itunes, will the pick of the week apps be limited to iPhones?

      Alexandria,
iTunes App Store only has apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod. So if you have a small device from someone other than Apple, the apps are not compatible. But if you have iTunes on a PC, you can still enjoy any music Picks of the Week!

        Hello GeeAMouse,
I work for a mobile game publisher, Bulkypix, and we have developed more that 100 awesome apps on iOS and Android. We would love to offer some of them to the Starbucks coffee lovers through the "Pick of the Week" selection. Could you please let me know with whom we should be in contact? I'd be really great thank you very much for your help. Best Geoffroy

        Hi GeeAMouse,
I work with FlightView, a day-of-travel flight information provider. We have some great FlightView Flight Tracker apps in the App Store & Android Play Store and were wondering how it might be possible to provide one of them as the 'Free App of the Week'? We have over 2 million downloads and believe that our audience - travelers - coincides with your audience! Could you let me know who we can contact about offering our app as the 'Pick of the Week'? Best Regards, Katherine

So you're supposing they expect you to run out and but a $600 phone in order to get a free 99 cent app? If I were as paranoid, I'd say Apple users are also being pigeonholed into becoming Starbucks drinkers.

The "pick of the week" cards are usually sitting next to the registers in the store. If you don't see them, just ask the barista. There's a new card every week.

I've been in 3 local Starbucks this past week and NONE of them have "pick of the week" cards. When I asked the baristas about it, they all just gave me a blank look and didn't have a clue what I was talking about.

No one replied to the question below of: "Is there any way to find these online?"

Or is there a way to print out a code at the bottom of a receipt?

And finally, WHEN can I get a Pick of the Week card? I really want this week's SPY MOUSE app!

Since this has began in August, I've been to many Starbucks locations between mid and southern Cali only to be lucky to stumble upon ONE location that actually had the cards for the apps and no they weren't all taken. Why not have the apps available over wifi at all locations instead of a select few. It's not fair for regulars who would like the full Starbucks experience.

I visited one of your stores this morning and they didn't have the cards out, but after I asked they went back in the back and grabbed them.

I'm surprised that when I went to redeem the Shazam Encore App from my iphone, it told me that it was not a compatible device and that I needed to use the code from a compatible device or desktop. You would think that this promotion would allow the app to be downloaded straight to the iphone.

After trying to download it through my iPhone and getting the incompatible message, I downloaded it through my computer. Before I tried putting it on my phone I updated my software on my phone though. So try downloading it through your computer, and if that doesn't work, I guess just update your software!

This promotion has been all over the internet for days and 4 Starbucks associates really had no concern in helping me. It might be agood idea for someone to send a memo to the stores or maybe thye should read their own company blog as this seems to be a widespread problem. Finally, I logged into iTunes on my MacBook Pro, and there, it prompts for my iTunes Password repeatedly. Over and over. But I just logged in and KNOW the password is correct. SOMETHING IS WRONG! Update: I contacted Apple Support and complained with the information from my prior post. They state they will respond within 24 hours. Cross your fingers that they can straighten this out. Also, just to note, there were only a few of these App cards left at the Starbucks store where I usually get my coffee fix. I still recommend grabbing one and holding onto it, in case they can straighten this out and make it work.

Great idea but the execution of this launch is terrible. No one knows what's going on, the stores I've been to don't know anything about it, and they don't have the cards. For such a big launch, this is going very poorly.

Good News: I received a reply from my Escalated Support case, this time the support person explained that, (for whatever reason), I needed to sign out of iTunes, then back in. NOTE: I have three devices (MacBook, iPhone, iPad), so I signed out of all three, by clicking on my account name, then signed back in. Afterwards I was able to enter the code and download the app. I had to verify my financial information again when I signed back in, but other times they just force you into the verify.

Just try to go to a Starbucks each week, Store #8308 is close to work. Amazing service!

Finally, at my local Starbucks, they have a Pick of the week App, "Star Walk". Also, there is a free app called App Trailers, which you can get free gift cards, including Starbucks and itunes, just by watching trailers for apps. Download the free app, and enter bonus code "myfree10". That will get you some bonus points toward the free gift card. Thanks

If you are in a Starbucks you can get the music download by going to http://starbucks.yahoo.com. They have the songs for at least the past 8 weeks on the site. You do have to be on the Starbucks wi-fi, but it works on iPad, iPhone and PC/Mac. BUT, my store does not have the cards for the app of the week. They had them for several weeks. I thought they stopped the program, but I was at another store and they had lots of the cards sitting out - song and app.

If I'm connected to the Wi-Fi at one of their stores, can I download the eBook Pick of the Week or would I still need one of the cards with a code????? Because I went to http://starbucks.yahoo.com and can't find the link, only for the song of the week.

I understand the need & fun of including Game Apps, Books, IPhone Apps, TV, etc... however, since this inclusion began I have not seen any redeemable music cards in my local store. I love finding new music & always look for the pick of the week cards when I go to Starbucks. I have no current use for any of the other apps being promoted.
Please! start a better rotation or variety of 'pick of the week' cards in the future, that include music. Thanks much!

How do you apply for the "App Pick of the week?" Is this Apple's choice or Starbucks?

This will happen if you are not logged into iTunes on the US store. (For instance, if you are registered in Canada).

If you are in Canada, you will need to get a Canadian Pick of the Week card which have different song and app codes than the US. Alternatively, you can log into the US iTunes store (research how on the internet).

Do you accept music from artists that would like to be featured on your
Pick Of The Week cards? If so, how does one go about submitting?

I have contacted customer support on this before, and thought it was resolved,
but it wasn't. So, in case anyone from Starbuks is monitoring this comment section --
I do NOT wish to rec eive a pick of the week notification every Tuesday, and I have my settings in my
iPhone App set to NOT receive these notifications, yet I am still receiving them. Please fix this.

How does an app get choses as the app of the week? Can you apply, or does Starbucks just choose one?

I am also interested on how to submit an app. There is a great game called SpyWordz that I would like to nominate for this program.

I have an app called 'Salary Crunch' for the iPhone, and I am wondering how can I get on the Starbuck's 'Pick of the Week' program to offer it to their customers?
