Our Newest Clover Coffee - Organic Timor-Leste
Organic Timor-Leste joined the Clover coffee menu last month. This washed coffee from East Timor offers layers of complex flavors including roasted fig, balsamic vinegar and dark chocolate.
If you’re a fan of Guatemala Antigua and Guatemala Casi Cielo®, I’d recommend trying Organic Timor-Leste – explore the cocoa notes these coffees possess!
I’d also recommend this coffee to those that drink Sumatra. Both coffees share herbal notes, though their flavors are quite different. Comparing these two coffees is sure to increase your appreciation of the diverse flavors from the Asia/Pacific growing region.
Cooperativa Café Timor (CCT) is the producer of this coffee. Starbucks has been buying coffee from CCT and helping them to improve the quality of their coffee since 1996. This coffee is a Fair Trade Certified™ and organic Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ coffee. It grows at an elevation of about 1,500 meters and is made up of the Hibrido de Timor varietal (a subspecies of arabica).
Timor-Leste, the official name of East Timor, is located south of the equator in the Malay Archipelago. Timor is the largest and eastern-most of the Lesser Sunda Islands. The island is divided into East and West Timor (which is part of Indonesia).
Starbucks has supported a number of social projects in East Timor. In 2000, Starbucks helped support a health clinic by covering the initial purchase of medical supplies. In 2008, Starbucks contributed $20,000 to a social project benefitting 14,000 people in rural areas of East Timor.
