Celebrate Earth Day, April 22

Darth Day on April 22

Hi! I wanted to tell you about an exciting event coming up on Earth Day. On April 22 we’re inviting everyone to bring in a reusable mug or tumbler and get a free brewed coffee or tea. Your choice of brew, hot or iced – it is spring after all! This is happening at participating stores in the United States and Canada.

Why are we doing this? We recognize the impact one can make through careful, conscious choices. So we want to encourage and reward those of you who use tumblers or travel mugs in your daily routines. You’re helping to reduce our environmental impact!

If you don’t have a tumbler or travel mug, they will be available for 20% off on Earth Day, April 22. Just so you know, anytime you bring in your own tumbler or travel mug to a participating Starbucks, you get 10 cents off your drink every day.

What if you can’t bring in a mug and don’t want to buy a new one? That’s okay too. Just request your coffee or tea in one of our “for-here” cups and we’ll pick up the tab.

Last year, when we did a similar promotion on Earth Day, more than 1.2 million of you participated. Let’s see if we can beat that this year! RSVP here.

Although reusable serveware and tumbler use still only accounts for a small percentage of total beverages served, those of you who did bring in reusable mugs still made a significant impact. In 2010, people brought their own tumblers into our stores more than 32 million times, keeping nearly 1.45 million pounds of paper out of landfills.

Please ignore this person. He/ She always gets on here and other sites and makes ridiculous claims to try and get people to hate Christians . Do you think Christians, who have loved the Earth and nature for thousands of years and way before it became trendy, would write something like this on a Starbucks site? This person just wants to bring a wrath of hatred against these people. Hopefully Starbucks can stop this left-wing,. socialist nutjob quickly. Enjoy FREE coffee day!

Thank you for saying this. I'm a true christian. I think this is a great idea from Starbucks. Earth day is a day to remember the land God gave us. I hope every one has a great earth day. Thank you God for this beautiful plant you have made for us.

I'm really tired of everyone saying 'I'm a true Christian'. I don't think I've met one yet, because in the next sentence there is usually condemnation in this case of a leftwing nut-job. Jesus, a true Christian, didn't have the need to label and condemn, he accepted everyone. If being a true Christian means being a rightwing conservative, I think I'll be happy with being a plain Christian that doesn't have to be condescending of other religions and judge becaus

I agree with one should not judge others, what was it Jesus said? "Remove the beam from your own eye b4 you cast aspersions" paraphrased, my bad! My whole reason for wanting to comment is GOD made the heavens and the Earth, we are NOT the best steward of our planet. Anything we can do to improve is a good thing. I agree that it is wise to ignore nutjobs, but please do not associate this person with the left. I am a progressive human being and am unhappy that you tie this individual to the progressive movement. Nutjob, perhaps. But who cares what their politics are, anyway? Just ignore such nonsense. Happy Earth Week, friends! Thank you, Starbucks, for promoting a green, healthy planet :)

I totally agree. I am a Christian also, and as so it is our responsibility as Children of God to be good stewards in all areas of life, including protecting the our earthly home. I hopefully that woman will realize that Earth Day was created as day that is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth and protecting our natural resorces. I am Glad that Starbuck is participating, and I hope that other large corporations get involved and make a impact in their local communities.

Well, we can't know that he is a nutjob or a Christian, but he is certainly stirring the pot as you say. Why else would anyone make such a pointless, antagonizing comment? Aside from that, though, I agree with many of the others above. Christians feel responsibility for the earth. They dont hate it. I honestly laughed out loud at qazedec's comment.

This article is about free coffee and and free tea, not if you are a christian or not, sometimes religious people wants to sound good in front of others they don't realize they make a fool of themselves, that is directed specially to "YOU". If you are talking about giving something for free Your are talking about Jesus who gave free "FISH SANDWICHES" TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE coffee and tea not included.

I understand what she is saying when she says she is does not celebrate earth day because she is a child of God. God, in his word did not command us to celebrate the "holidays" that the world has created. He did command us to celebrate the "holy" days in his Word. There is a vast difference between worshiping the earth and taking care of it. We take care of the earth by using the resources God gave us wisely, but we worship God only.

God is everywhere, all the time, not limited to just the confines of a walled in church.

I think that it's terrific Starbucks is offering a free drink for people that bring in their own mugs. I have two comments: 1. It would be great if Starbucks made more effort along these lines year round by asking customers if they want their drinks "for here" or "to go" on every visit as most people sit with paper cups in the store for no reason. 2. Why does the Manager of Global Responsibility assume that the 1.45 million pounds of paper cups would end up in the landfill

All we have to do is ask for a ceramic mug if we are drinking in. All shops have them and they keep the beverage hotter longer. Let's all try that next time we sit-in and use our own mugs for carry-out. But, only Starbucks can put recycle receptacles in the shops and make sure those paper cups end up being recycled. I'll drink to that!

So I went this morning to my local Starbuck's looking to get my free coffee, and I had brought in my own mug. I realized after I paid that I didn't get my free coffee. So I then asked the person who made my drink, "how do you get the free coffee?" She responded by saying that you had to buy one of the Starbuck's travel mugs. What??? This if false advertisement. If I wasn't allowed to bring in my own mug, then how is that being "GREEN" for Earth Day! Very upset

Same experience as usual with Starbucks, they offer a promotion and then fail to honor it. Walked into store with my mug and once again their false promo was ignored. Lines were so long who wants to argue in a crowd. There was free lesson in future Starbucks promos will not be honored so why bother!

Disappointed that the offer didn't include the expresso coffees.. Even a vanilla latte should be ok !

Starbucks should clarify what they meant by free coffee. There's no fine print or anything. As a gold card carrying Starbucks customer, this is just shabby advertising...I was disappointed by not getting even a simple vanilla latte when I brought in my resuable mug.

Disappointment yet again from Starbucks! Train your partners! I hate your stupid tricks to make me go into your store. This was the last time! I went in got a tea in my cup & 3 other things, got charged for all items, called the store, the response was "I don't know why you got charged, ok bye" .......my response "really, I guess I will call the mgr tomorrow. Really, wow, not even an offer to fix it until I mention calling the mgr. Train this mgr how to smile too while you

So apparently, if they don't like your comments they delete them? Wow. Nothing vulgar or mean towards any PERSONS, just critical of corporations like Starbucks (in response to their Earth Day "contributions"). I don't see them now. Hmm...
