Chocolate Cinnamon Bread is Back, But Not For Long

You missed this beloved baked good so much that we brought it back, but only for a limited time.

Come in and enjoy a slice while it’s still here, and when it’s gone, follow our recipe to make it yourself at home. We’ve doubled the measurements because, let’s be honest, one loaf just isn’t enough.

Ingredients:

Chocolate Batter –

  • 3 sticks unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 5 large eggs at room temperature
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 ¼ cup dutch processed cocoa
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Cocoa Spice Topping –

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp dutch processed cocoa
  • Pinch of ground ginger
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • ¼ cup sparkle sugar (for decorating)

Step 1 – The most obvious yet most forgotten (by me anyway) step, preheat oven to 350 F. Grab two 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pans and line with parchment paper.

Step 2 – To mix the batter you’ll start with the butter and sugar. Mix these in an electric mixer until light and creamy, around 5 minutes. Then add the eggs, one at a time, mixing until each is fully incorporated. You may need to scrape down the sides of the bowl a few times to get them fully mixed in.

Step 3 – Grab another bowl and sift together flour, cocoa, cinnamon, salt, baking powder and baking soda. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, water and vanilla. With your mixer on a low speed, begin adding the contents of each bowl to the butter mixture, alternating between the two until your mixture is fully blended, but not overly whipped. Then split your batter between the two pans. If your batter is slightly uneven, you can lightly shake the pan to even out the tops.

Step 4 – My favorite step, and the easiest part of the recipe, make your topping. Just combine the sugar, cinnamon, cocoa, ginger and cloves. Then evenly layer the decorating sugar over your batter, followed by the spice mixture.

Step 5 – Finally, bake for 45-50 minutes.

For the ultimate treat, pair a slice with a fresh cup of Guatemala Antigua, Colombia or House Blend, and when you’re finished, let us know how it turned out!

I've seen this in the stores but had no interest in it, until I read this recipe. Now I just need the espresso brownie recipe :-)

This has been my favorite recent treat. I'm so happy to add this recipe to my collection! My local Starbucks doesn't have this anymore, so now I have to switch to buying the petite chocolate hazelnut tart.

Calling all baristas and store managers can you please tell corporate that
the customers would like to have the Chocolate Cinnamon Bread year
round. Also, another item that has not been in the stores lately is the
baguette. Some of you may not remember this item because it has been
several years since you have carried the item. It was a such a delicious
morning treat with walnuts and raisins. Yum!

I was bitterly disappointed just now, when I went to SBX specifically for the chocolate cinnamon bread, only to find that it's gone.

Please make this a year-round treat!

I have the butter and eggs out, warming to room temp. Will bake two batches, taking one entire batch to my local senior center. I know they will enjoy it as much as I do.

Just made the receipe! Very delish! Only downside was one of the loaves crumbled to pieces. The other was perfect! This chocolate cinnamon bread compliments my morning cup of Starbucks coffee very well!
