Chai Tea Latte: Experience a Classic Again

Tazo® Chai Tea Lattes

Tazo® Chai Tea Lattes mix the exotic with the familiar. This beverage starts with a rich, full-flavored Assam tea and blends five spices that have been used in Indian chai recipes for decades: ginger, cardamom, star anise, cloves and cinnamon. The blend is a “classic masala chai” – the Tazo recipe adds sweetness with honey, organic cane sugar and a hint of vanilla.

Like most of our beverages, the Tazo® Chai Tea Latte is customizable. If you want to savor some extra cinnamon or try it very vanilla, just ask. One of the more popular customizations you’ve told us about is to add a shot of espresso for an extra kick. There’s an iced version perfect for warm days. And there are a full range of milk options, including soy.

Here’s an insider’s tip: for a less spicy, sweeter taste, increase the amount of dairy. The milk fat decreases the level of spice you taste. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a spicier, less sweet Chai Tea Latte, ask us to dial up the water – that helps to release the full flavor of all the spices.

How do you like to customize your Tazo® Chai Tea Latte? We would love to hear from you.

Oh wow, I didn't know we could ask for a shot of espresso in a Chai Tea latte. I received wonderful tea leaves mixed with coffee beans for Christmas once and loved the combo. I'm a sucker for any coffee with "baking spices" like cinnamon, so I'm definitely going to try this. I hope the barista doesn't think I'm **** when I ask!

Among baristas it is called a "dirty" chai tea latte, and is quite popular among the chai tea die hards. Enjoy

Seriously... how can you NOT know this? You can ask for espresso in your Passion Iced Tea if you want to. Not sure WHY you'd want a single shot P.I.T... but you COULD.

Haha, I don't like coffee myself but I LOVE Chai Tea Lattes, order them all the time...except today I sent it back twice telling them it tasted like coffee. I just assumed they'd made the wrong thing. Finally the barista goes, "Um, I guess you don't want the espresso in it then? It comes with two shots of espresso." I was like "...wuh?" Do I have to ask for it WITHOUT espresso now? Or is that barista just a confused newb?

I wonder if newer people get the idea of "latte" muddled with the idea of "espresso latte". To me latte means milk, so chai tea latte = chai tea with milk. I actually had that happen to me recently, but luckily it was caught before they made it.

I think it probably has turned into something you have to specify, unless you know your baristas well!

I like Chai Latte, no water, no foam, 1 pump of Pumpkin Spice. Unfortunately, I am currently living in Dubai, UAE and not only do none of the Starbucks here have Pumpkin Spice, they don't even have Chai Latte! I am extremely disappointed! I thought that guests were supposed to be able to have the same Starbucks experience world wide. I've had to resort to going to Caribou for their Turtle Mocha's.

They already have a sugar free, calorie free, artificial sweetener free version that's better than the one w/ sugar- tea bags.

I cannot find sugar free Chai tea at any Starbucks in Southern Calif. I'm diabetic and can't have the regular. I make one with two Chai tea bags, a2 pumps of sugar free vanilla and steamed milk with splenda..closest I can get :( Other coffee houses out here have good sugar free Chai drinks.:( s.

I'm not a coffee drinker but I am definitely hooked on Starbucks chai's. When I try to make it at home it's just not the same. I like an iced chai latte with very little ice, just enough to keep it cool but not water it down. A hot chai latte is delicious this time of year with a shot of pumpkin spice. But iced or hot, I drink them all the time!!

    • 9/25/2011 7:34 PM

    Two Questions:

    1) I was told to have no water and more Chai if I wanted my drink spicier ... has that changed?

    2) I have also noticed the taste has changed in the past few weeks, so I also want to know if the formula has changed?

    Thanks.

More water (i.e. more milk) and/or more chai will give you a stronger chai so that's half right and half wrong.

. The concentrate is *****. I suggest getting it made w/ the tea bags. Sugar, artificial sweetener, & calorie free. Much better tasting. I love a 2 bag, half water half non fat milk, x2 shot, 2p mocha, 2p WM, 2p caramel chai latte w/ whip, mocha drizzle, caramel drizzle, and (when offered) salt topping. I used to order this iced (steeped in 12oz hot milk blended w/ 12oz ice w/ the syrups and espresso), but now most baristas won't blend lattes. They push frappuccinos which are NASTY.

PLEASE get your baristas to understand the difference between a chai tea and a chai latte. A chai tea has NO MILK.

Hello i'm from Belgium. And there's finally a SB in Brussels. I'm sooo happy. And I wanted to try a chai tae latte. But at my big surprise there was cinnamon in it. One of the spices I dislike most :-(
So since there seem to be a lot of knowledgable people around tea latte here I wanted to know if first of al it's possible to have this with another tea flavor. And if yes which one do you recommend.
    Have a nice day/evening

      Hello Bealdis,
as far as I know, cinnamon is one of the spices that belonges to the original chai tea. So if you dislike it, it´s no use if you choose a different flavour, you will alwas have cinnamon in it.
Have a nice day and greetings

I love soy chai lattes from starbucks, but wished that they would have more options when it comes to the soy milk. The only one they offer is a vanilla soy which has a lot of sugar in it. I was hoping they would offer a light soy milk option to the menu.

I used to be a die-hard Mocha fan but now I've switched to Chai Tea Lattes. Didn't know there was a non-tea bag v. tea bag version!

So many good variations of the Chai Latte... I'm gonna have to go through all of them and try them out. :) I've been wanting to try soy chai lattes ever since I first worked as a barista but I'm not a big fan of soy milk in general. Is the soy milk really strong in the drink?

This is by far my most favorite Starbucks drink. I like the latte with soymilk, a sprinkle of cinnamon & a packet of honey. However, the frappucino version is SO bland that it's almost like drinking a really plain vanilla frappucino drink. I've tried the chai tea frappucino at various stores and it's always like that unless I ask for extra chai spice mix.

In relation to ordering a Chai Tea Latte: Since the revelation that Soymilk for the most part, even though organic, are GMO. I would really like an option to order Organic Almond milk because overall it is healthier. Any hopes of that soon?

My Chai Tea Latte of choice is - Grande Non Fat No Water 8 pump! The last 3 I have ordered have a completely different taste - more of an earthy tea. I am completely & totally disappointed in the taste. I have asked if they changed the formula or brand of tea but no one seems to know. I am dropping my drink which I have had every single day for the last 6 plus years. It is something that I have looked forward to & love. A total bummer & disappointment!

I too am very disappointed in the new chai tea latte that they are now serving. The spices almost bite you. Since 2002, I have been ordering a venti no water no foam, which was nice and creamy and smooth. I was told that the new chai was developed by Oprah. Starbucks has lost me as a customer. Too bad they didn't ask the customers what they liked instead of a personality star. The upside is that I will now be saving $5 a day, close to $1800 annually. Will sure miss that wonderful drink...

I get a venti iced chai tea latte about 4-5 days a week. The spices are so strong now. All I taste is cinnamon, which I like, but not as the only flavor. I may try it with extra milk to see if that makes a difference. If not I will stop going there, since this is the main drink that I order.

I am wondering if Starbucks is now serving the oprah chai exclusively . I have been to 3 different Starbucks in the last three days and the chai has been super weak and not the usual chai. I have had it remade and asked questions but none of the baristas will say anything. I have been drinking chai at Starbucks almost daily for the last 4 years and I know what it's supposed to taste like, I really hope this isn't a permanent thing.
