Starbucks.com Goes Responsive

Have you noticed a difference in the look and feel of Starbucks.com when you pull up the site on your cell phone?

Over the past year we’ve noticed a big change in the way you’re getting to Starbucks.com – more and more often, you’re visiting us on your mobile and tablet devices instead of your laptops or desktops. Great news, but the trouble was, the experience on our website wasn’t ideal for these devices – until now.

Aloha from Kona

I have a great job. I was in Kona, Hawaii, recently, where I got to see the passion and pride that farmers bring to the coffee they grow there. They are resourceful, creative, adventurous, and completely committed to their farms, their mills and their craft.

Making Progress

Spring is here, which means 2012 is moving right along. How are you doing against your New Year’s resolutions? I didn’t “officially” set any this year, but the ones I had in my mind I failed within the first month. And I think I know why. It’s partly because I didn’t write them down to visually remind myself about them every day, but it’s also because I didn’t share them with anyone else, so no one was holding me accountable.

What’s the Meaning of Macchiato?

One of my favorite beverages is the Caramel Macchiato, but for those who’ve never tried it, it’s a bit of a mystery. What does the word Macchiato mean, anyway? And how do you pronounce it? Macchiato, pronounced “mah-key-ah-toh,” literally means “marked” or “stained” in Italian. Traditionally, a Caffé Macchiato or Espresso Macchiato is a shot or two of espresso, with just a small amount of steamed milk that “marks” the espresso, though in some regions, the steamed milk comes first and the espresso makes the mark.

Congrats on Another Year of Progress!

Each year this is one of my most anticipated events. Through our steadfast commitment to ethically sourcing our coffee, developing comprehensive recycling solutions and activating partners and customers to participate in community service, we have continued to make great progress toward our stated goals.

The Power of an Hour

Each of us knows how to make the best of an hour, particularly when every minute counts. An hour might be all it takes to get the laundry done, to squeeze in a workout, to cram for a test or to generally lead us closer to achieving our own personal goals.

But that brief unit of time can also make a world of difference in the life of another or in the health of a community. For Starbucks second annual Global Month of Service, we challenge you to harness the power of the hour throughout April to help your community thrive.

In Southern Mexico, Coffee Co-ops Bring Better Lives

Traveling up a mountain in the back of a pickup truck, on a bumpy road of hairpin turns, I feel dwarfed by the towering Mexican elm trees looming out of the evening mist. As we pass homes scattered among the coffee bushes that dominate the landscape, El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve feels a world away from the urban sprawl of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the capital of the Mexican state of Chiapas, where I have spent much of the past week.
