Little Known Fact About Starbucks VIA Veranda Blend™

Some of you have noticed that the packets or our new Starbucks VIA Blonde Veranda Blend™ are a bit longer than our other Starbucks VIA Ready Brew products, but they still make perfect 8 oz cups of coffee. This difference in length is due to the lighter roast of the coffee, which leads to a fluffier microgrind. The granules are so much larger that the difference is visible to the naked eye.

New Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew Coffee Blends Now in Grocery Stores

Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew House Blend and Breakfast Blend coffees

Fall is here, which means it is time to get back to my everyday routine. I love when the leaves turn, the temperature cools and my favorite sweaters come out from hiding. And, as the days become shorter I find myself needing a warm welcome to the dark mornings.

Lucky for me, two of our most popular coffees are coming to a nearby grocery store. Customers can find our new Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew House Blend and Breakfast Blend coffees where they buy groceries.

Both of these blends are made from 100 percent arabica coffee and taste just like our fresh-brewed coffee. House Blend is steeped in tradition – it is one of our longest-running blends, with a smooth, balanced flavor. Breakfast Blend is bright and lively, and perfect if you like a lighter roast. So don’t worry about hitting that morning snooze button – Starbucks VIA® coffee will fit in with your schedule even if you’re running five minutes late.

Starbucks VIA® Caramel Iced Coffee – an Essential for Summer Camping

One fun thing about summer is camping. I love pitching the tent, hiking, hopefully being near some water to swim in or just cool off. I also enjoy the camp fire and a good cup of coffee in the morning.

Going camping is about getting away from the city and the everyday routine. But one thing that is hard to give up is my coffee. When I camp I always pack my Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew. My favorite is the Italian Roast. This summer there’s another treat, akin to an indulgent treat I enjoy at Starbucks – a Caramel Macchiato. Starbucks VIA® Caramel Iced Coffee was inspired by the caramel sauce used in the delicious Starbucks® Caramel Macchiato. It is easy to pack and all I need is water and my water bottle and voilà a great iced coffee in an instant away from it all.

Cocoa Origin Trip Report # 2

We continued our trip, first in Ecuador and then moving on to Colombia. (If you missed my first report, you can read it here.)

Our journey continued to Bucaramanga, Colombia. We are sourcing cocoa from 61 farms in a small town named San Vicente de Chucuri. These farmers were carefully selected for our Cocoa Practices program by our partner Compañia Nacional de Chocolates. During last year’s verification, these farms obtained the highest score ever recorded in the program, so we gave them a monetary award for their great efforts.

Unfortunately the weather in Colombia has been quite extreme. Just one day before our trip to San Vicente de Chucuri, the torrential rains damaged the roads and collapsed a bridge that prevented us from going to the ceremony. I wanted to share a picture of the event – each one of the farmers received an envelope with cash, proportional to the amount of cocoa beans they sold to the Ecocacao cooperative, one of our partners in the program. But alas.

Some of you may be wondering what is this particular cocoa used for? Well, we use it in our one-and-only triple-verified product sold at stores in the United States and Canada: the Starbucks VIA® chocolate bar! This particular product has been verified by our three ethical sourcing programs. By buying this product you are making a difference in the life of these families in Colombia.

New Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew™ French Roast

Hi! I became a Starbucks partner in May 2010 and I work on developing new blends for Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew™.

I was an avid fan of our instant coffee before I joined Starbucks, and French Roast has been my favorite whole bean coffee for years. That’s why I’m so excited to announce that we have just launched Starbucks VIA® French Roast.

This coffee adds our darkest-roasted coffee to the Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew™ family. It has an intense smoky flavor with surprising low acidity and light body. This coffee pairs perfectly with a sweet morning pastry – I like to enjoy it first thing in the morning to help get me ready to face the day.

Let us know what you think of this new coffee!

The Joy of Christmas, Even On the Go

Christmas has many memories for me – the childhood ones are glowing, happy thoughts of tinsel-decked trees, crisp New England air with the chance of snow, and the delightful anticipation of Christmas morning’s presents.

Now as a working adult living in a Seattle condo, I enjoy the milder Northwestern winters and have a small tree that isn’t any higher than my waist – but I still love the season, especially since I can now enjoy a cup of spiced eggnog or mulled wine with my holiday dinners.

There’s only one aspect of the holidays that has been a major downgrade from when I was a child, and that can be summed up in a single word: travel. With my entire family living on the other side of the country, I inevitably get on a plane every year right in the heart of the busiest travel season. I’ve encountered every conceivable delay: snow storms, plane trouble, inexplicably canceled flights, missed connections and on and on.
