What’s the Meaning of Macchiato?
One of my favorite beverages is the Caramel Macchiato, but for those who’ve never tried it, it’s a bit of a mystery. What does the word Macchiato mean, anyway? And how do you pronounce it? Macchiato, pronounced “mah-key-ah-toh,” literally means “marked” or “stained” in Italian. Traditionally, a Caffé Macchiato or Espresso Macchiato is a shot or two of espresso, with just a small amount of steamed milk that “marks” the espresso, though in some regions, the steamed milk comes first and the espresso makes the mark.
Steaming Perfection
At Starbucks, we spend a lot of time focused on coffee quality, and with good reason – it is at the heart of our most popular beverages. But if our signature Espresso Roast is the heart, then great steamed milk is the body that holds our espresso beverages together.
Over the next month, Starbucks is rolling out a new custom steaming pitcher to help our expert baristas make even better steamed milk for your beverage. The secret is in the shape. It’s tapered and concave, allowing for the “whirlpool” motion needed for steaming perfection.
Introducing Starbucks® Blonde Roast, the Newest Addition to our Coffee Family
I always look forward to my morning coffee, whether I’m sluggishly heading out the door on a Monday morning or cozily settling in after a weekend stroll in my Seattle neighborhood. While I love to explore our different coffees, I tend to stick to a balanced cup, like Pike® Place Roast. My husband, on the other hand, loves the darkest of dark roasts – the bolder the better. And then there’s my dad, who, while he treasures his morning coffee, typically finds some of our coffees a little too dark for his tastes.

Skinny Peppermint Mocha is a lighter version of the Peppermint Mocha. Made with espresso, nonfat milk, sugar-free Peppermint Syrup and Skinny Mocha sauce. With only 100 calories in a Tall (12 fl. oz.) it’s a holiday treat you can feel good about.

It’s time to “fall back in” to our usual routine. Summer vacations have come and gone, the kids are (finally) back in school and we’re settling back into our habitual schedules.
Fortunately, there’s something to spice things up a little: the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte!
Chai Tea Latte: Experience a Classic Again
Tazo® Chai Tea Lattes mix the exotic with the familiar. This beverage starts with a rich, full-flavored Assam tea and blends five spices that have been used in Indian chai recipes for decades: ginger, cardamom, star anise, cloves and cinnamon. The blend is a “classic masala chai” – the Tazo recipe adds sweetness with honey, organic cane sugar and a hint of vanilla.
Like most of our beverages, the Tazo® Chai Tea Latte is customizable. If you want to savor some extra cinnamon or try it very vanilla, just ask. One of the more popular customizations you’ve told us about is to add a shot of espresso for an extra kick. There’s an iced version perfect for warm days. And there are a full range of milk options, including soy.
Our Best Frappuccino® Blended Beverage Ever?
I’m super excited to introduce the Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino® blended beverage, coming to Starbucks for the very first time on September 6. You’ve been asking us for a new, amazing flavor – and here it is!
This beverage strikes the perfect flavor balance with our rich mocha sauce, toffee nut syrup, coffee, fresh milk and ice. Then we top it off with a buttery caramel drizzle and a sprinkle of sugared sea salt topping.
Some people who have tried it are saying it’s “the best Frappuccino® blended beverage we’ve ever had at Starbucks.” Pretty bold statement, huh? Well, now you can try it for yourself, and we want to know what you think!
