Aloha from Kona

I have a great job. I was in Kona, Hawaii, recently, where I got to see the passion and pride that farmers bring to the coffee they grow there. They are resourceful, creative, adventurous, and completely committed to their farms, their mills and their craft.

The Return of Starbucks Tribute Blend

Tribute Blend is back

It’s true. We said we’d never bring it back. Starbucks Tribute Blend® was intended to be a once-in-a-lifetime coffee, created to celebrate you and the coffee producing communities around the world that grow the premium beans we’re so proud of. It’s a blend of four distinct coffees from around the world, incorporating the qualities each coffee growing region is famous for. The result is a spicy, full-bodied coffee with exotic notes of berry and dark cherry and a lush, syrupy mouthfeel. And you loved it.

Timeless Sidamo

“Our grandfathers left us a timeless treasure,” Lankamo Lana tells me as we walk through the impenetrable lush garden farms of the Homacho Waeno Cooperative in Sidamo. “The ability to understand how to keep coffee ageless through garden farms,” he says.

Most coffee farms can be traversed with ease through the relatively wide spaces between growing coffee trees, but here, the spaces between are filled with growing food. I can barely keep up with him as I carefully avoid destroying the delicate crops. I stare at him, pretending I understood what he just said, as he disappears into the next garden.

A New Way to Navigate Our Coffees

Not all coffee drinkers are alike. Some like a dark and bold cup, while others prefer a lighter roast. Here in the Digital Marketing team at Starbucks we’ve been busily transforming our website, so that when you visit us at Starbucks.com, finding the coffees in our collection you’re sure to love is a cinch.

In conjunction with the introduction of the Starbucks Roast Spectrum and the Starbucks® Blonde Roast – a lighter roast profile for coffee drinkers who like a milder cup – our coffees are now classified by our roast profile: Starbucks® Blonde, Medium and Dark. If Pike Place® Roast is your preferred brew, for example, browsing our medium roast coffees might lead you to your next favorite.

Java Means Coffee

Blue Java Indonesia is here.

So, what’s with the name Blue Java? Well, blue refers to the color of the raw coffee beans before we roast them up. Most unroasted coffee beans have a greenish hue, but what is unusual about these raw beans is that they show distinctive deep blue-green color. In the cup, the coffee has herbaceous notes of sage and fresh earth and a sweet and syrupy mouthfeel.

Introducing Starbucks® Blonde Roast, the Newest Addition to our Coffee Family

I always look forward to my morning coffee, whether I’m sluggishly heading out the door on a Monday morning or cozily settling in after a weekend stroll in my Seattle neighborhood. While I love to explore our different coffees, I tend to stick to a balanced cup, like Pike® Place Roast. My husband, on the other hand, loves the darkest of dark roasts – the bolder the better. And then there’s my dad, who, while he treasures his morning coffee, typically finds some of our coffees a little too dark for his tastes.
