A First Glance at The Muppets: The Green Album
Frank Sinatra, Van Morrison, Tony Bennett and Ray Charles. What do they have in common, besides a horde of awards and Hall of Fame memberships?
They all recorded “Bein’ Green,” as in “It’s Not Easy Being Green” – Kermit the Frog’s famous declaration of emeraldness.
Well, add to that distinguished list Andrew Bird, who performs the song on a charming upcoming tribute to the music of the Muppets, which you’ll find at Starbucks later this summer. (Beginning August 23, to be precise.) We’re pleased to present for the first time the cover of The Muppets: The Green Album, as well as the track list.
As you see, it’s rife with songs that are familiar to generations (the Muppets themselves date to the mid-‘50s) and artists who are in the forefront of music today, including Weezer, My Morning Jacket and Matt Nathanson.
I guess as I scan this list, there’s really only one obvious omission. Where’s the Muppets house band, Dr. Teeth & the Electric Mayhem?
- Muppet Show Theme Song, OK Go
- Rainbow Connection, Weezer and Hayley Williams
- Mahna Mahna, The Fray
- Movin’ Right Along, Alkaline Trio
- Our World, My Morning Jacket
- Halfway Down the Stairs, Amy Lee
- Mr. Bassman, Sondre Lerche
- Wishing Song, The Airborne Toxic Event
- Night Life, Brandon Saller of Atreyu and Billy Martin
- Bein’ Green, Andrew Bird I
- Hope That Something Better Comes Along, Matt Nathanson
- I’m Going To Go Back There Someday, Rachael Yamagata

lookin forward to it, will it be playing in coffee shops
Taking pre-orders???
Great idea, but we are not taking pre-orders.
A new Airborne Toxic Event song mixed with the awesomeness that is The Muppets: This may very well be the first time in history Starbucks will have a line out the door for something other than coffee. :)
I'm a serious Muppet fan. So glad you are supporting them. I remember wonderful finger puppets that I used to buy at Starbucks. They included Muppet characters before they were discontinued. Wish those finger puppets would come back They were the BEST.
I remember the fingerpuppets too. Those were fun!
I have always loved the muppet movie. This brings back great memories. Can't wait to hear them again.
If I walk into a Starbucks and hear the Muppets playing, I'm taking my business to Panera Bread.
I agree. Starbucks is an adult oasis in a world full of McDonalds, Burger Kings, Hardees and Chuck E Cheeses. Must it turned into a coffee-scented daycare? I don't want Starbucks to play kids' music either. Stick to smooth jazz, or the Beatles.
Have you ever watched an episode of the Muppets...not exactly for kids.
Hey there, BA....easy now....if you scroll up and look, you will see that a lot of really good bands are doing the singing and playing....lighten up....have a latte or something.
^Don't know how BA feels about this, but to me a kids' song is a kids' song. And in Starbucks - DO NOT WANT.
People who've forgotten how to have fun scare me. The knowledge that this album is coming brought a smile to my face that won't soon go away. Killjoys won't get me down. :P
Have a mocha and please get over it.
"The Green Album" sounds like a great project. I'll have to check it out once it's released. I love the Muppets!
@pcoaltermartin: I remember the finger puppets too! I have Kermit, Rowlf, Gonzo, Fozzie, Swedish Chief, and Animal. The only one I don't have is Miss Piggy. It would be great if Starbucks could bring them back. They could add new characters too, like Sam the Eagle.
Can't wait to hear The Airborne Toxic Event's version of Wishing Song!
I remember seeing Frank Sinatra on The Tonight Show (With Johnny Carson) back in the day singing "It's Not Easy Bein' Green". Best rendition!
I'm really excited to get this album! I love creative thinking and writing while at Starbucks, and tapping into Muppet-magic is right in line.
(from the Muppet Movie) Janice: "With real good music and organic refreshments..."
Just a comment, though - "Night Life" is an Electric Mayhem tune; I'm glad they weren't omitted!
Where can I order my copy online? I have been searching around here on Starbucks.com and haven't found it yet....
