Our environmental approach is guided by our Environmental Mission Statement and what we call our Environmental Footprint Analysis. This audit of our supply chain – from coffee bean to coffee cup – helped us determine our environmental impacts and establish initiatives aimed at making Starbucks footprint on the earth smaller.

The Environmental Footprint Team, comprised of Starbucks partners representing the major areas of operations, identifies specific initiatives and assesses Starbucks annual environmental performance. Using The Natural Step’s framework for sustainability, the Footprint Team identified three focus areas to measure the company’s environmental performance:
Sourcing: coffee, tea and paper.
Transportation: people and products.
