Celebrating Earth Day every day
Founded by the organizers of the first Earth Day in 1970, Earth Day Network (EDN) promotes environmental citizenship and year round progressive action worldwide. Earth Day Network’s mission is to broaden the environmental movement worldwide, educating and mobilizing individuals, governments and corporations to take responsibility for a clean and healthy planet.
The Starbucks Foundation partnership focuses on EDN’s new Civic Education Project teaching and promoting civic engagement in the classrooms by using important local environmental issues. EDN will work with and train teachers to make environmental issues in urban areas part of their curriculum. These include: clean air and water, recycling, urban parks, energy conservation and healthy diets and lifestyles. Students are challenged with identifying local environmental problems and finding a way to implement solutions. ![]() History with Starbucks Starbucks has been providing financial support to Earth Day Network since 2002. Our first investment was in the translation of EDN’s “What’s in your water” curriculum into Spanish, which was distributed to teachers throughout the Americas via www.earthday.org. Follow up funding has been focused on community engagement projects in underserved communities across the United States. In addition, Starbucks has promoted Earth Day Network and its platforms by featuring practical environmental citizenship messages on its cup during the last three Earth Day (April 22nd) promotional seasons. |
