Introducing soccer and sonnets America SCORES was founded ten years ago by a Starbucks barista in Washington, D.C. who loved soccer and poetry. Today, America SCORES serves nearly 4,000 america scores logopoetry-performing soccer players in 13 Starbucks cities, and growing.

What makes this nonprofit a national phenomenon is that it gets to the heart of what motivates kids: teamwork, sportsmanship, creativity, and performance. It also tackles some of the most pressing issues facing students in inner-city public schools: literacy and health. Most importantly, it was started by someone who believed in its potential: a Starbucks barista whose store actually helped pay for the first team's uniforms.

"America SCORES demonstrates how a creative approach can truly inspire youth to reach their potential," states Paul Caccamo, America SCORES President. "The greatest challenge facing public educationamerica scores image is not what we teach, but rather, how we inspire. We encourage our students to form social bonds on the soccer field and then we challenge them to use this teamwork in the classroom. This is a winning formula for academic success."

Starbucks has been a part of the success of America SCORES every step of the way. More than 1,000 partners have volunteered for America SCORES, contributing volunteer time through “Make Your Mark,” organizing special events, hosting student poetry performances at local stores, sponsoring coach appreciation days, and even bringing hot chocolate to warm students up during game days on those late November afternoons. In 2002, the Foundation made a three-year pledge totaling $225,000, providing the resources to expand the program nationally. In 2005, the Foundation extended its commitment for two more years with a $500,000 pledge.

America SCORES continues to provide partners with rich and meaningful opportunities to help youth in their neighborhoods. For information, please visit www.AmericaSCORES.org and/or contact info@americascores.org.
